Chapter 17 – Stone Wars

"Gen, you haven't actually seen Senku's body. If he is alive out there, he'll surely discover the village and build a Kingdom of Science. That would be the worst conceivable scenario. As soon as we have an army, we'll take the village by force."

As soon as the mentalist finished repeating Tsukasa's words, everyone wore grim faces while Kohaku voiced out the worries in their minds, "More ridiculously strong men like him are coming?"

Shrugging, Gen replied with a wry grin, "Probably, yeah. He's been reviving a ton of people."

The corners of your lips curled into a frown, your brows furrowing in concern as you mumbled, "This is bad news. We aren't prepared at all if they do attack us at any moment."

Senku, on the other hand, was the only one who didn't feel threatened by the mentalist's message, instead, he was brimming with excitement. Delighted cackles fell from his lips twisted into his trademark smirk; red eyes glowing with mania that matched the wild, dancing flames of the bonfire as he said, "We've come to an all-out war between the Kingdom of Science and the Kingdom of Might. This is exhilarating!"

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the small group, something was lurking outside their doorstep; waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting village like a predator hiding within the tall grasses, stalking its prey with sharp, vigilant eyes.

"A party sounds like so much fun," Ginro let out a complaining sigh before glancing over to his brother with narrowed eyes, his tone was accusatory as he continued, "I'd be there, too, if it weren't for a certain stubborn someone who has nothing to say but 'rules are rules'..."

Kinro was unwavering towards the blonde's attempt of making him feel guilty as he continued to stand guard by the main bridge's entrance, his stance stoic as he responded firmly, "Guarding the village is our duty. If they were to attack the village, they'd do it now, during the celebration."

Suddenly, something from the darkness caught his attention and his green eyes widened in alert as he got into a defensive stance, his gaze never straying from the forest. One could hear the urgency in his tone as he informed the other in a soft but hurried voice, "Ginro, go back and alert the others."

Ginro, being the oblivious fool that he was, didn't notice the brunette's tense body as he questioned in a loud, bored tone, "About what?"

Only when did Kinro move into a fighting stance, his shield held in front of him and his spear poised and ready to attack at any given moment then did Ginro noticed the many pairs of eyes staring unblinkingly at them from within the shadows of the trees, hiding and waiting for the perfect time to strike.

Olive-green eyes widened in fear as the brunette took a step back, every muscle in his body tensed with the unknown as his gaze locked onto the many silhouettes. He only snapped out of it when his brother spoke up again, his voice unwavering and steady, "If they reach the living quarters where the children are, it's over. Ginro, if I'm killed, cut down the bridge with me on it."

Said person wanted to protest at the other's words, but even he knew better than to waste another second standing there and so, without hesitation, he turned on his heels and ran back to the village to warn the rest that they were being ambushed by enemies.

Kinro, on the other hand, started to back away slowly, still keeping his guard up with his eyes trained forward and his ears alert for any sudden movement or sound.

Meanwhile, deep within the forest, a figure standing high up on one of the branches, let out an impressed sign when he understood what the brunette was doing, "Huh. He immediately realized he was outnumbered, and now he's luring us onto the bridge to fight one-on-one. I like it. He's very proper."
