You begin to become aware. There is a pounding in your head, almost like someone had hit you with a glass bottle. Ringing was also present, you wished there was a way to turn it off. As your eyes open you are met with walls surrounding you. They are damp and moss grows from the bottom. You have no doubt this was a rats breeding ground.
You slump out of bed. The air is cold which creates soreness in your dry throat.
"We meet again Y/N." You turn and see a tall man with blond hair and shaggy beard at the bars. You stare at him for a moment trying to complete the puzzle of who he is.
"I'm sorry have we met before," dragging your feet, you get closer to him, the bars are the only thing separating you, "I don't remember you."
"Why you-" the man grits his teeth in frustration. You think he is going to turn away but he grabs the collar of your shirt and pulls you up, "you are a devil, you need to be killed."
"That's enough Braun." an older man pats his shoulder, and you are lowered. You can finally feel the floor under your feet once more. You decide it's best to keep a few paces away from the bars, so an incident like that does not happen again.
"L/N says they can't remember anything." Braun explains. He gives you the side glance.
"Sir," you say meekly, grabbing his attention, "I promise you I really don't remember anything. All I can tell you is my name."
"How do we know this devil is not lying?!" Braun butts in. The concoction of anger and frustration has turned his face red, like spilled wine.
"You won't. You can keep me down here as long as you want or kill me, but it won't change the fact I have no clue who I am or what is happening."
The leading officer sighs, "Commander Magath."
He puts his arm through the bars, indicating for you to shake.
"Y/N L/N..." when your hand touches his, you immediately get goosebumps running up your arm. His hands were warm but that did not mean anything, not when you were shivering like a leaf.
It is like the saying goes: warm hands, cold heart.
"Reiner Braun." He does not offer to shake your hand and even if he did offer, you would not take it. You could tell by his eyes and lines that were drawn along his young face that he has experienced battle. Physically and mentally. There is a hint that you were part of both of those worlds. To him you could tell that you were just a devil.
This whole time your heart has been pounding like an alarm in your ears. You were trying not to be fazed by the situation, however you are sure that you were failing miserably. All you want was to lay down and cry. You want someone to wrap their arms around you and tell you everything about your life: where you came from, what is your life like, do you have a family?
"How long have I been unconscious?"
"Nine days." Magath replies.
The cell door creeks open and handcuffs shackle your hands together behind your back. Two soldiers grab your upper arms, one standing each side. The soldiers escort you out the cell. Magath is now in front of you, there is no longer a barrier separating you.
"It's only a precaution, we cannot have you run away." Magath explains.
You sigh, "Run away to where, I told you I don't remember anything and I have no clue where I am and assuming how I'm being treated I'm not a welcomed visitor."
You are dragged up flights of stairs, you had not realised how weak your body is. Your stomach begins making noises, crying out for food; and your throat gasping for water.
Wooziness. That was all you felt when you made it to the top. Nonetheless, no one was bothered. Even though it seemed you were a special case, there was no special treatment to accompany.
Commander Magath opens the door and announces: "Warriors," they all stand to attention, "this is the one on the ship," you are pushed forward, nearly tripping over your own two feet, "they are an 'island devil'."
"Don' call me that." You talk back, your raspy voice rings in the silence. All you have been hearing since you have woken up is: Devil this, Devil that...
A man with an undercut and slick hair grabs a handful of your hair and yanks your head back, forcing you to meet his eyes. He seems to be the 'bad boy' that thinks his anger makes a veil for weakness.
"Don't speak back, know what you're worth." He spits. The ringing in your head becomes worse, you fall to your knees. No one even bats an eye. Not towards a 'devil' at least.
"Please do, tell me my worth..." you snarl.
"Galliard, don't harass the prisoner, they're already on their last leg." A lady with long black hair smiles lightly. Your gaze lands on her. She seems sweet and kind, someone to show care to even the lowest of scum.
"Shut it Pieck." Galliard sits back down.
"Have they told us anything useful yet?" A boy with blond hair asks, he is standing behind a man with a beard and glasses.
"They claim they can't remember a thing, like a blank slate." Reiner explains, he taps his foot impatiently.
"Have you tried torturing them? Maybe the devil will speak then." Galliard snarls.
You struggle to keep your eyes open. Pieck notes that you look sickly. The weight of your head forces you to look down at the floor. You feel yourself fall forward into something. Rather someone.
"I suggest if you want to keep your 'blank slate' you better feed it Commander Magath." It was Pieck, she caught you and was allowing you to rest your heavy head on her shoulder.
You mumble a thank you to her.
"Reiner mentioned they are a Titan Shifter." a man with a beard and glasses nods towards you. He seems to have the traits of a leader and be curious at the same time.
"Yes, gained one of the lost Titans in the final year of my mission. They should have around 9-10 years left."
"Pity none of the new warriors are ready to inherit a Titan." a higher-up remarks.
To you all this talk on Titans was nonsense. You did not have a clue what they were conversing. You wished you could understand what they were talking about but even then, if you did understand there was no guarantee that they would listen to someone they call 'devil'.
"Zeke, I will be placing Y/N under your care."
"Yes, sir." Zeke stands and pulls you up by the arm. You keep repeating the name over and over to yourself, you felt like you have heard it, but from where.
"Take the 'devil' back to the cell."
Magath then pulls Zeke close to him, whispering something in his ear.
