Their mother sent the two at Camp Nightwing. This was how it was done in the previous years too so it wasn't really a surprise. Jade's aunt had connections and got her a spot to work with the nurse. It always helped to have medical experience beforehand and this was a great opportunity for the kid.
During her time at Camp Nightwing there was a ginger haired girl that always found a way to hurt herself. If Nurse Lane wasn't there then Jade would be there to patch her up. Though most times it was Jade since she was good with the kids because most people weren't particularly fond of Nurse Lane. Plus Jade is a Sunnysider.
