As the sun set gently over Liyue, the sun cast a gorgeous orange glow over the harbor. The children were starting to find their ways home, and workers were leaving their jobs for the day.

Everything seemed to be normal. Most likely because it was normal. Just another day of the week.

Childe enjoys wandering the streets of Liyue harbor after the day is practically over. Much more peaceful and quiet. He doesn't mind people eyeing him during the day, but it does get quite annoying.

Kicking rocks along the pavement he sighed and stared up at the sunset painted sky. He had almost forgotten it was his birthday. Childe was never one to really care about the day, in fact ever since he was about 14 he stopped remembering the joys of his birthday.

Just an additional day until your inevitable resting date.

His birthday really had little importance to him, but back at home his family would go wild. All his siblings shower him with affection, congratulating him on surviving another year.

Most years, he actually sent out gifts to other people on his birthday. Mainly to his family just so they know he hasn't kicked the bucket. Not just yet. This year was no different. He had shipped out the gifts yesterday so they would arrive not long after today. Or if he was lucky, they were already there.

Sighing again, he stopped and looked out onto the water. Slightly leaning over the railing and stared at his reflection in the calm waters. The light that reflected off the water gave his eyes the sparkle he lost.

It was hard to understand why he felt so different this year. Usually he just acknowledges his birthday, and sends the gifts back. But this year, he felt strange. Perhaps it was all the years of pretending he was enjoying his birthday coming back to bite him in the back.

Not long after staring into the water, he could hear faint footsteps coming up behind him. His instincts were to summon his hydro daggers and point them at whoever decided to sneak up on him.

But as soon as he went to turn around there was a softer voice calling out to him. "Heya. What're you doing out here?" It was Y/N, one of Childe's friends he met while on a job a few months ago.. He internally was grateful he hadn't gone through and tried to stab them.

"Staring out into the vast ocean. Care to join me?" He tilted his head back, his ginger locks falling over his eyes. Y/N hummed in agreement and stepped up next to him.

There was a breeze that caused their hair to go flying in different directions. Y/N took a deep breath in and stretched their arms overhead, "I didn't take you to be someone interested in such a calm atmosphere. What's the occasion?"

Childe then remembered that he never mentioned his birthday to them before. Bringing it up now would seem ridiculous to him. So he just waved his hand in the air. "Nothing. A guy can't take in the oceans of Liyue?" He laughed.

Y/N rested their elbows on the railing. "For you, it's strange. You? 'Taking in the oceans of Liyue' This could go down in history." they joked.

Childe held back a sly remark about him almost drowning the entire harbor, and awakening a sea god. Another thing that he hadn't told them.

"But when I came over you had a different vibe around you." They remarked, staring down at their reflection.

"Different vibe?" Childe questioned.

"Yeah, I don't really know myself. You looked sadder than usual."

Childe put on an offended tone, "Are you implying that I look sad all the time?" He pouted.
