Eventually, though, I did have to leave. I heard Liam calling my name. I gave Cynthia one more tight squeeze and left to find out what Liam was hollering about. I swiped the tears from my eyes and sniffed a few times as I walked out of her room.
"Is everything all right?" he asked me.
"Yes, we're fine. What do you need?"
"Okay, I'm still learning what's normal in this house. Anyway, where am I going to sleep?"
"I figured I'd make up a place in the office. I would say that you could sleep on the couch, but Cynthia is an early riser, and I don't want her to wake you up."
"I'm okay with sleeping on the couch if you are," he told me. So, I helped him get out pillows and blankets, and together we made a make-shift bed.
