I was always someone special in life, I was born with both Oni and Human blood but I never knew who my parents actually were.
My name was Mei and I never had a surname to go by like everyone else in life.
In fact, I was always alone, I learned how to live by myself, I learned how to survive by myself, I learned how to read and write by myself, I guess you could say I did everything by myself.

???: A better question would be what are you doing all the way out here alone?

The woman lifted her right hand and stretched it out towards me, I felt my heart drop and my instincts take over as I suddenly jumped backwards in caution

I didn't even get time to finish my sentence as I felt someone's hand touch the back of my head, I shifted my whole body to see the woman stood behind me

???: I see, so you're half Oni half-human... that explains why you've been able to live for so long by yourself and learn how to speak fluently
Mei: What do you mean?
???: Oni have always been a race that were able to adapt all by themselves, the fact that you've managed to live like this by yourself proves it

???: Well I guess I shouldn't just leave you alone like this, so how about it, do you want to come back with me? I'll give you a home and a place where you can eat actual food, make friends and grow stronger
The woman offered me her hand but I didn't take it, I was torn between whether I could trust her or not, this woman was able to determine exactly what I was just by touching me and is now offering me an actual place where I can stay
