"HANGE!" Levi yelled out

He was dreading the thought.
Could that brown hair belong to....Hange?

He got on top of the titan, attacking the nape.

There was a chance that Hange was alive.

The titan reached out, trying to throw him off, but it ended up scratching his eye.

"SHIT!" Levi yelled, putting a hand over it.

As he cut the nape out, the titan started slowly falling. It swallowed hard at the contact with blades.

Shit.

Hange was done for.

They were swallowed.

Levi hadn't noticed Moblit, the one who sent the signal In the first place, and that made him worried.

He sent out a silver signal.
It was signaling that Hange was harmed and the mission can't keep moving forward.

Levi was waiting for a signal back.
The purple signal, telling him that squads are getting in formation to the way back, was fired.

He fucked up.
Maybe if he was faster-

No.
He couldn't be.
He had to finish the titan off first.

What if he signaled the smaller titans?

Screw that.
More soldiers would just get eaten.

What could he have done?

Maybe it was his fault.
Maybe if he got Hange out first....
Maybe the titan wouldn't have swallowed.

Levi failed his liege, Erwin, and humanity.

Levi got back on his horse and rode silently.
His breathing was raggedy and his eye was bleeding out.

Blood and tears.

'Damn it Ackerman, this isn't the time to cry. What are you, a cadet in training?' He scolded himself

He quickly went back into formation, blending in with the others

Everyone was unnaturaly silent.

The walls were opened and soon soliders started to fill up the path.
Civilians were eyeing them.
Some in the utmost respect, and some in pure disgust.

Levi remembered how Hange, although they didn't frequently get compliments, always accepted them graciously with a smile.

"I love you heichou!" A middle-aged lady shouted from the crowd

A simple "Shut up, pig" could be heard in response

Levi was brought to the care center. It wasn't often he was seriously injured.

He saw soliders missing limbs, beaten up and bruised, and on the verge of death. This sight was nothing new to humanity's  strongest.

He saw plenty of people in this condition before.
Yet, the atmosphere still made him sick.

'I should have gotten used to it' Levi thought.

But how could he ever get used to something like this?

While his eye was getting stitched he let his mind wander.

"Huh? Bath? Who has the timeee!!" The tall brunette said, way more dramatically than necessary

"You better have, shity glasses. You smell like titan shit." The small ravenette replied

"Actually, titans don't-"

"-have a digestive system. You're still disgusting." The shorter man said

"But I'm supposed to see Moblit in a few minutes!!" The brunette replied, exhausted

"Yeah, you'll see him alright. We don't need more than a few minutes." The shorty replied

The raven dragged the Brunette by their hair, stomping angrily

The brunette was a lot taller, they could have got away. Yet they didn't.

They just sighed defeatedly, going limp.

The ravenette shoved the brunette into the shower, scrubbing viciously at their hair.

"Ahhaah Levi that tickles!" The brunette replied

"Shut it, shitty glasses" The raven responded, slightly smiling

"Levi it hurts."

Levi looked at his hands.
His smile immediately dropped.

His hands were covered in blood.
He had been scratching Hange's head.

As Levi  was standing there paralyzed, Hange's head started deforming under his hands.

"Hey Levi.
You know this is all your fault, right?"

And with that, Hange's head snapped.
Pieces of their squishy skull hit the ground.

This wasn't Levi's intention.
He never meant to kill his best friend.

"H-Heichou?"

Levi looked up

Moblit was standing in front of him.

"I'm sorry" was all that Levi could manage to say

Moblit looked at Levi, blood streaming from his eyes.

"Sorry isn't going to cut it, heichou.
You will pay the price, you monster."

Moblit's face disintegrated into chalk.
He was gone.

Levi was left all alone.

And just to be clear, every Levi-Hange interaction is purely platonic. They're friends. Never had an interest in each other, plus Hange is taken.
