Erwin brought a tray with two cups on it.

"Tea." As Erwin reached for a cup, Levi stopped him

"Let's switch."

Erwin gave a confused look

"So I know it isn't spiked"

"As you wish." Erwin sighed and spun the tray around

"So, Levi. Tell me about yourself."

"Why? What do you wanna know, eyebrows?" Levi glared suspiciously

"I'm just making small talk."

"Well, IF I have to. I'm Levi. I'm one of the filthy fuckers you capitalistic pigs hate. Were the scum you rich bastards feed off of."

"Levi."

"Eh?"

"I'm not in this for the money."

"That's what you all say. You all try to make yourselves feel better. At the end of the day, people still die so you can live comfortably. You only aspire to soothe yourself."

If there was one thing Erwin hated, it was his pride being trampled

"For the record", Erwin exclaimed sharply, "I aspire to discover the truth behind titans and stop them from oppressing mankind. I believe that if we all step up we can do it. No matter how many people die, the sacrifice is worth it if we can collectively get through this. The end will always justify the means."

Levi hadn't heard someone talk so passionately about something since Farlan learned how to cook pasta.
He explained the seemingly simple recipe in so much detail, it was hard to believe he wasn't born to cook pasta

"Alright then, mister Commander."

It was evident in Levi's voice that Erwin was, little by little, gaining his respect.

"I'm still a leuntant as is." Erwin shrugged, running a hand over his slicked hair

*FEW DAYS LATER*

"Your honour. Under the command of the Survey Corps, he won't be dangerous. I believe his power shouldn't go to waste, but rather, be utilized for humanities sake"

"How do we know he'll listen?"

Erwin walked over to Levi, kicking him square in the stomach.
Levi was so shocked he lost his balance and fell to his knees.

"Ackerman. Mark my words. You are nothing more than a mere dog. I can use you anytime I want. You are simply here to listen to my orders."

"Very well, Commander Smith. The jury will now make their choice. Any objections?"

"We shouldn't let a runt from the underground like him roam around the place." A jury member stood up

"Runts who don't have anything good in their lives listen the best. They'll do anything for shelter and proper food."

"He should just be killed!" A woman exclaimed

"Right now he is a mere dog. He does not understand right from wrong." Erwin continued, raising his voice

"Folks like him commit all sorts of crimes." An elderly man screamed

Levi was still on his knees, shocked
He tried getting up only to receive another kick, this time square in the face.

Was Erwin's nice behaviour a persona after all? A mask to hide his true nature? Had Levi's assumptions been right from the start?

"Well. I think you've done enough Commander Smith. Any objections in the jury?" Nobody stood up this time
