Writing Out Numbers vs. The Number Symbol- you get the point.

19 2 1

So writing out numbers like twenty-two vs. 22, when to actually use which one, fractions, money, numerals etc.

Written numbers vs. the actual number itself

(ex. Written form: three

         Number itself: 3)

If you're starting a sentence with a number, you always write it out.

ex. 23 shirts were sold ❌Incorrect

      Twenty-three shirts were sold ✔️Correct

(This example is not a really good sentence, please do not wrote your sentences like this. Thank you.)

Decimals and whole numbers

When writing, it matters if the number is a decimal or whole number. Decimal numbers are always written as the number itself because it's more clear.

ex.  One point four ❌ Incorrect

       1.4 ✔️ Correct

Paired numbers

For example, "There are three 6-year-old children," not "There are 3 6-year-old children."

Decades and centuries

If you are talking about a time period that isn't exact like the sixties, don't write the 60's, write it out. If you're talking about a specific date/year such as 1991, then you can write it as a numeral.

Rounded and Estimated numbers

Rounded numbers over a million are written as a numeral and a word together. Like 60 million. If you're using the exact, precise number, write it out.

Percent

Use the percent symbol for scientific and technical pieces of your writing, otherwise write it out.

Having multiple numbers in a sentence

If you have multiple numbers in a sentence and are in the same category, then keep it consistent. If it's talking about something in a different category the the others, write it out or put it as a numeral, make it different form the other. I really hope that made sense.
