Dmitri Belikov

The coronation was perfect. Roza looked beautiful in her red dress and jewels. She was the perfect Queen and no I wasn't being biased... okay maybe a little, but she could truly do magnificent things. She lived as a Dhampir, so I knew in the future our lives as a species will be better. But she also cared for everyone, so we were all going to be better off with her being our Ruler. I wasn't paying attention as the crowd calmed down from the excitement of the crowning, I was too busy stuck in my own mind, that was until everyone gasped. Looking up, I couldn't help but gasp as well.

There in front of everyone to see, Roza remained tall and proud, holding a stake in one hand, while her darkness created the symbols for the five elements: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and Spirit. Each and every one of them were the colours that the Moroi thought represented their elements perfectly.

"Rise," her voice was soft as her hair flowed from the non-existent air; the lanterns that surrounded the podium lit up with flames with each step she took to the Throne. I watched as people breathed in with shock and surprise. How they were still shocked was beyond me, they saw her abilities back during Natasha's trial. Water seemed to trickle down the walls as if the entire structure of the building was a fountain and in front of her stood several guards.

I knew I was supposed to be up there with her, but I was going to wait till she gave me the signal. Just because her aunt had requested me as Roza's; didn't mean she still wished for it. The sound of leaves blowing outside caught my attention; my eyes strained to watch for any sudden movements. I was so engrossed in the potential threat that I missed what Hans had said.

"Dude..." Ivan jabbed at my side with his elbow. Looking at him, he pointed to the front where Roza sat with a small smirk on her face. Crap, what did I miss? The group of Guardians that consisted of Alberta and several others such as Emil and Celeste that I knew from St Vladimir all joined Roza with smirks.

"Do you wish to be my Guardian?" Her beautiful voice chimed in my mind, as I searched her eyes. "If not, you can be Ivan's and Eddie will be mine."

I subtly shook my head, I wanted to be her Guardian more than anything and I knew Ivan felt the same way. Looking at me she smiled and nodded slowly before turning back to face everyone. Tatiana still stood next to Roza and without the aid of Hans or Roza silence the audience with a simple hand gesture.

"Behind us you can see our new Queen's guards, but her Head Guardian is still to make their way to the stage. Please give a round of applause for Guardian Dmitri Belikov."

As expected, the crowd did as our previous Ruler asked. I felt self conscious as I made my way to the podium but I braced myself and smiled. My dream was coming true, I was finally given a position where I could be with the loves of my life. I bowed to Tatiana first, then to Roza who in return rolled her eyes humorously. Taking my vow wasn't something of faint heart, I meant every single word I spoke.

"I, Guardian Dmitri Belikov, graduated from St Basils, and vow to protect you, shield you, sacrifice my own life for yours for as long as you may need or want me. There will be never a time where you shall fear as I will be there to protect you, there will never be a time where you shall be lost as I will be the light in the dark, your compass. This I vow till my dying death or until you no longer wish for my service."

Roza knelt down and pulled me up with a soft grip on my arms. Smiling she turned to Alberta who stood behind her as the rightful role as Guardian Captain. Alberta handed her a pin that was ironic in design. A red rose surrounded by black mist, I couldn't help but snort quietly as the appearance of it, but luckily Roza had thought the same as me as she winked while pinning it to my jacket.
