First Person POV

Meridan and I continued to follow Eleanor and the trail of wisps which led us through the forest into deep fog before we came across the ruins of a castle. Meridan and I, followed by Eleanor make our way up the rubble to where it looked like a tower stood.

"Mom, (Y/N), look! Why did the wisps bring us here?" Meridian tilts his head slightly, confused.

Meridan and I walk side by side, our hands brushing against each other. We were afraid of what could lie ahead of us, "I wonder who lived here," he muttered under his breath.

I gently spoke up as we were stepping close to the rubble of the tower, "Whoever they were, they've been gone for a long long tim-"

Suddenly, the floor gives way and Meridan and I fall through. Meridan pulls me into his chest as my arms around his upper body to protect ourselves from the fall. We rolled down some bricks as we screamed before landing with a thump.

Eleanor cries out to us as she looks over the edge of the broken floor.

We cover our eyes as we look up towards her; Meridan calls out, "We're fine, mom! Fine.."

Meridan and I slowly look around as we untangle ourselves from each other. Thankfully few injuries, only a few scrapes here and there.

"It's a...throne room.." I spoke softly.

"Do you suppose this could have been the kingdom in that story you were telling me? The one with the princes?" Meridian asks, glancing over at me before seeing a stone with three figures and a split stone with the fourth figure.

I step forward to stand beside Meridan counting the figures with him, "One, two, three, four. The oldest. Like...like the tapestry. The spell! It's happened before!"

I look up at Meridan before glancing around; this is crazy. I knew the story had to have some truth to it, but we had actually found the ruins of where the story took place. What could this mean for us?

The two of us slowly look around, seeing bones all over the floor. It looked like a massacre had happened there.

"The strength of ten men. Fate be changed. Changed with fate," Meridian mutters aloud to himself.

I tilted my head, extremely confused, "Meridan, what are you talking about?" I gently grab his shoulder, trying to get his attention.

"Oh, no! The prince became..." Meridan starts before seeing the bear come up behind (Y/N) and himself, "Mor'du!!"

I look back behind me, seeing the large bear. I scream. I had never seen a bear this up close since I met Meridan.

The bear growls and swings his paw out to attack Meridan and I. Meridan pushes me back, behind him, to protect me as he starts shooting arrows at Mor'du.

The bear growls in pain, swatting at Meridan again.

Meridan kept firing as he turned his head slightly to yell back at me, "(Y/N) run! I'll hold him off!"

"M-Meridan, I-I can't just leave you!" I cry out as I start to tear up. I knew he was right; there was nothing I could do to help him, but I didn't want to just leave him alone. It would be my fault if he died.

"(Y/N), you have to go! I can't do much for you, but please, just let me protect you!!" Meridan sniffles, a tear slipping down his cheek.

More tears start to pour from my eyes as I nod my head, "Please don't die.." I turn and rush off towards the rubble that had once brought us down here. I run up the rubble and jump, reaching out my hand to Eleanor.

She grabs my hand and pulls me up and out of the hole. I collapse to my knees, panting for air. I was not in the best shape to be trying to escape a bear.

Meridan POV

I turn my focus back on Mor'du as soon as (Y/N) is rushing to get away. A gentle sigh slips past my lips. At least, she'll make it out alive. That's all I can really ask for.

Mor'du doesn't give me much time to relax; he lunges at me again, and I have to dodge out of the swing of his paw.

Mor'du took advantage of that, charging towards the rubble where (Y/N) was rushing towards to try and escape. There was no way I'd let Mor'du get to her. I couldn't bare it if she got hurt because of my stupid choices. All of this was my fault, and I would make it right.

I rush forward releasing three, four, five arrows into the back half of Mor'du which caused him to growl loudly and refocus his attention on me, giving (Y/N) enough time to jump up and grab onto my mother to help her out.

Mor'du charges back towards me and once again I continue to dodge. If I keep this up long enough, he has to tire out right?

After a few more narrow dodges and escapes, I cramble towards the rubble as Mor'du is recovering from slamming into the crumbling stone walls.

My legs are pumping faster than they have ever had to in my life. My heart is pounding rapidly in my chest; I'm surprised I'm still going, but I think the adrenaline is the reason.

I see my mother's head sticking out over the edge of the hole, looking frantically at me.

(Y/N)'s head peaked out as well. She looked absolutely exhausted and terrified for not her life, but mine.

I don't know what I'd do without her support, belief, and trust in me through it all. Without her, I would be lost. She is the light in my darkness.. My partner in crime.. My best friend.. The woman of my dreams. I have to make it out of here, for her.

I pick up speed, running up the rubble as Mor'du is charging up behind me. I push off the ground with all my might, flying into the air as I reached my hand out.

My mother grabbed tightly to my hand, pulling me up and out of the hole. (Y/N) rushed to my side to examine me as quickly as possible for any injuries.

As soon as she had looked over what she needed, she pulled me up and off the ground, "Meridan, you could've gotten yourself killed!"

I pull her into my chest, holding her close to my body. I was so glad she was alive and well.

Sadly, our celebration didn't last long. We had to get out of there. I quickly picked (Y/N) up in my arms before crawling up onto my mother's back before we rushed off onto the forest, "Mom, we need to get back to the castle. If we don't hurry, you'll become like Mor'du! A bear! A real bear! Forever!"

As she ran even faster through the forest, I started to think aloud, "Mend the bond torn by pride."

I looked down at (Y/N) when the realization crossed both our minds, "The witch gave us the answer. The tapestry!"
