Time for Goodbyes

After everything that had happened to them, Hugo and Emma already knew what they had to do now. As much as Emma wanted to help Gabriel Agreste, she knew it wasn't her place to do so. The past itself has changed since they arrived, but there was one more thing the two needed to do. Adrien Agreste and Marinette Dupein-cheng will be fine without them, but the others can't remember a thing about them. Over time everyone's memories of them will fade away, but for this to work, they needed to help them.

Hugo and Emma Agre need to disappear. For the others to accept this departure, they needed to say goodbye. They owed it to everyone to say goodbye before leaving them. After all, the next time they will all meet, their friends will all be adults. Adrien and Marinette will have found their happiness and experience a chance to be the kids they are. Hugo and Emma can't stay no matter how much they would miss them. They know it in their hearts that it was time.

As the two made their way back to the bakery where Marinette would be waiting for them, they both couldn't help but silently say their goodbye to the Paris they have come to know. Emma and Hugo walked side by side together as they went through the bakery door. Immediately at the sight of Hugo, Tom pulled the boy into a big hug.

"Don't scare us like that again, Hugo. If you ever have a problem, you know you're always welcome here, understand?" Tom whispered to him, only making the boy smile sadly. His grandfather had a big heart and no matter what may happen in the future, this would always be his greatest strength.

Sabine smiled as she joined the hug, gently pulling in Emma as well. "We care about you kids, so please come see us more."  Emma couldn't help but look up at her grandmother before returning the hug just as tightly.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Dupien-Cheng, we'll see each other more very soon," was all Emma answered before both kids separated from the hug, waving at the two adults as they climbed the stairs to Marinette's room.

Of course, Marinette let them in right away, sensing that something has changed between the two.  Hugo and Emma were no longer working apart from each other, but together. As the two explained their plan to her, Marinette understood their feelings and hugged them just as tightly.

"If you two are going back home, at least let us throw you a goodbye party," Marinette offered with a smile. She knew that once their classmates learn that they plan to leave, they'll definitely be upset if they don't get to say their goodbyes. "I know you two have to go back to the future, but I really am going to miss you two."

Hugo couldn't help but chuckle as he shook his head no. "It's like you said. No matter what time we're in, we'll always be proud of you. Besides, we couldn't stay even if we wanted to. There is a time for everything, and right now, it is time for you and Cat Noir to be teenagers, not parents." He then looked down at Emma, who immediately wiped away her tears again, trying to keep a smile for her. "A lot of things need to happen before we meet again. It's not like this goodbye is going to be forever."

Marinette handed Emma back the hummingbird miraculous, Honey appearing immediately beside her with a guilty look on her face. Of course, Marinette filled her in on what had happened. Honey couldn't help but blame herself at the fact that Hugo had been akumatized, especially because Ladybug and Cat Noir could have been revealed.

"Honey, I missed you," Emma shouted, immediately giving the kwami a gentle hug. She couldn't help but also give the little bird a little kiss on the top of her head. "Don't scare me like that ever again, okay?"

"You either, Ryu," Hugo said as Ryu took a seat on his shoulder.

"We promise we won't do anything like this again," both kwamis promised as they smiled back at their holders.
