SCAR'S POV

After my encounter with Rafe, I walked around town before deciding to head to the beach. I hadn't been to the beach since we moved here, so I thought it would be a good place for me to have some alone time and just enjoy nature.

As I walked to the beach, I couldn't help but think about Rafe. My heart genuinely ached for him because I knew what it was like to be a disappointment to your father. When I first met him, he seemed like this tough guy, and seeing him upset and vulnerable in front of me made me feel empathetic towards him.

Though things hadn't gotten much better for me, I had to tell him that they would get better for him. I didn't know how to help him otherwise, but it seemed like the job I gave him brightened his mood a bit.

I now sat on a tree that had fallen on the beach and I pulled a joint out of my pocket along with my lighter. I placed the joint between my lips and lit the end, taking a hit, feeling the smoke make its way through my body. I instantly felt relaxed, needing this more than anything. I looked out into the ocean in front of me, admiring the earth. It was so crazy to me that there was nothing out in the ocean. The ocean was massive, more than our minds could even comprehend, and I was sitting on the edge of the coast right now, looking out into nothingness.

As I sat here, I heard laughter coming from a distance, and looked over to see three boys and a girl, two of the guys shoving each other around and they were all laughing. The one guy had a case of beer in his hand and they got settled on the beach, each of them cracking open a can. Watching them have fun with each other made me feel like shit. Since I was new to the island, I didn't have any friends. I've been by myself for the past month and it's been so hard.

I had two close friends back home and we would do everything together. They were always there for me no matter what, and I just really missed having them around. I missed laughing with them, crying with them, and doing stupid shit. I felt so different now that we moved here. My life was so different now.

"Hey," I heard a soft voice and looked up to see the girl who was with the guys. "You're new here, right?" She asked me and I nodded my head in response. That seemed to be the first thing people would say to me. "Why don't you come hang out with us?" She asked as she nodded over to the guys.

I looked over the guys and they were watching us, the one blonde haired guy waving at me.

"Really?" I asked her, not being able to believe that I was just sulking to myself about having no friends, then she came over and asked me to hang out with them. She eagerly nodded, a smile on her face. "Okay," I smiled.

I got up off of the tree and followed her to the three guys, all of which were so attractive. What was in the air here? Why was every person on this island so good looking?

"I'm Kiara." She introduced herself as we began walking over to the guys. "That's John B," She pointed to the one guy with a bandana around his neck. "JJ," She now pointed to the guy who waved to me. "And that's Pope." She pointed to the last guy who was wearing a hat.

Everyone had such interesting names here.

"Scar." I told her my name.

"Boys," Kiara said as we approached the three guys. "This is Scar."

"Hello, Scar," JJ said in a flirtatious way as he stuck out his hand for me to shake.

"Don't listen to him," Pope now shoved JJ out of the way. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Pope."

"Dogs." I heard Kiara mumble and I looked over at her to see her rolling her eyes with her arms crossed over her chest.

I couldn't help but laugh. "It's nice to meet you guys."
