                                             Chapter 8

Katherine pulls back from Ryan and stares up at him. She didn’t understand why Ethan was acting the way he was towards her. Strangely she felt a connection to Ryan that she had never noticed before but she didn’t want to risk losing Ethan forever even though he deserved it.

“If you want we can go get you some cloths or if you just want to relax I can go get you something” Ryan whispers as he brushes a piece of her fallen hair out of her face. Ryan had never looked at Katherine like this before but something inside of him just wanted to help her.

“If you could just go I would like to take a hot bath” she says as she steps back some blushing.

“Of course I’ll be back soon” he says before turning to leave. Katherine goes into the giant bathroom and turns on the hot water in the tub before turning to strip down. She looks in the mirror and places her hands over her flat stomach.

“I promise I’ll never abandon you” she whispers before climbing into the steaming water. She lets her aching muscles be eased by the hot water as she lays her head back against the edge of the tub. Her thoughts drift to Ethan and how he looked when he came home and the things he said to her.

“Katherine I’m back” Ryan says as he knocks gently on the door making Katherine jump as she had fallen asleep.

“Ok Ryan I’ll be out in a moment” she says before washing her body and hair and climbing out pulling a towel around her. She grabs another towel and roughly dry’s her hair before opening the door. Ryan is sitting on the bed looking at the floor but when he hears the door open he looks up and his mouth almost falls open.

She looks at Ryan not sure why she felt so comfortable around him but she did. Ryan stands and holds out the bag of cloths to Katherine.

“I hope I got everything right and it’s enough” he whispers before looking away not wanting to embarrass her. Katherine takes the bag from him and then looks inside.

“This will be fine…Thank you Ryan” she says sweetly before walking towards the bed to set the bag down.

“I’ll just be next door if you need anything just knock or call out and I’ll be right there ok” he says before turning to exit through the adjoining door. Katherine gets dressed into a pair of torn blue jeans and a white sweater before crawling up onto the bed and staring at her phone. She had hoped Ethan would have tried to call or text but he didn’t.

Ethan hadn’t waited long before he was on top of Vanessa just wanting to drown his sorrows like he had the night before and Vanessa wasn’t stopping him. Vanessa groaned as she pulled him even closer and ran a hand through his hair as she felt him begin to take off her shirt.

Ethan rolls off of Vanessa out of breath now in the floor and exhausted. Vanessa pants heavily as she props herself up her elbow and looks over at him.

“So I guess I should be going then?” she says figuring he was just wanting her for sex.

“Yeah I guess you should” he says as he stands and pulls a blanket around his waist before grabbing his bottle of whisky and heading towards his room. Vanessa pulls on her cloths and smiles as she exits the door and climbs into her car. She drives out of the gate and pulls out her cellphone.
