Ximena hadn't spoken since Alarico went missing, knowing it was entirely her fault. The thought of being hurt crossed her mind so many times. She didn't mean to be a burden on them.
"I'm going to check on her '' her fathers deep voice was in a harsh whisper.
He pushed the door open abruptly, catching her off guard making her jump.
"Sorry mi mundo" he apologised as his gaze fell on the stoic little girl sitting lazily on her bed.
She just stared at him coldly, making him flinch.
"I guess I'm going to have to get used to that" he mumbled to himself, referring to her staring which was a symptom of epilepsy.
That reminded him also that he needed to send her for a check up. He wanted to know everything he could about her- problem.
"Are you ok mi mundo?" He sat next to her and she finally snapped out of her daze.
"I-I-I am yes o-ok-ok" she nodded, making him scrunch his nose in confusion.
"I'm going to tuck you in today" he informed her, glancing at his watch.
She glanced at him briefly then nodded, snuggling into her peach coloured duvet that took up most of her bed.
Fernando placed a lingering kiss on her forehead.
"Your brother will be back" he said "and when he returns I'm going to whoop him" Ximena smiled softly.
Her brothers never liked getting whooped, not because it hurt - which it didn't - but because they claimed they weren't children who needed to be whooped.
"Buenas noches" he greeted and she tried to respond but it came out as an unhearable whisper.
Fernando spared his daughter one last glance before walking out of her room, forgetting to turn on the night light Catalina just bought for her.
She closed her eyes, wanting sleep to consume her but sadly it never came. What was wrong with her? She suddenly flinched when she heard her window open. She tried to keep her shaking body still and her eyes screwed shut.
