MATTIA
I ran over to Athena, grabbing her arm and pulling her back to me before she could take the glass. It dropped mid air, falling to the ground as shards of glass shattered everywhere.
The entire ballroom fell silent.
Athena looked around, her assistants running towards her and taking her out the ballroom. I glared at the man opposite me, I'd never seen him before. He didn't even look familiar to me.
"You always spike women's drinks?" I asked, hearing a series of gasps go around the room. His face flushed red as he struggled to think of an excuse. I would've beat him up but the entire room learning about him was embarrassing enough for me.
"Mr Alondo, you are under arrest for misconduct and attempted sexual assault" said an officer. Two of them walked over to us, their voices clear as day given the room still being silent.
"Sexual assault!? I wasn't-"
"Anything you say or do may be used against you in the national court of law" said the other officer whilst his colleague placed the cuffs on his hands.
I watched them leave and the music slowly became louder again and people returned to their conversations. I turned around, unintentionally locking eyes with Athena's parents who were looking right back at me. Her mom gave me a smile but her Dad's expression remained blank.
"Whatever" I mumbled under my breath, walking out. I found Athena sitting in the foyer, surrounded by her assistants. She saw me and quickly dismissed them, standing up herself.
"Nah you can sit" I said, walking over to her and sitting on the couch. She sat down again, looking over at me.
"Thank you for saving me" she said softly. I smiled weakly, laughing to myself.
"Just cause I'm not your bodyguard anymore doesn't mean you're not my priority" I said, reaching over and taking her hand in mine. She squeezed my hand, I could feel her relief through it.
"Ahem"
We both looked up to see her parents looking at us. I pulled my hand away quickly, Athena looking at me with sad eyes but I couldn't afford to care when they were both stood there staring at me.
PLAY THE SONG- BELIEVE
"Thank you" said her Dad "for what you did back there, you saved our daughter's life and if anything you saved her a lot of trauma"
He walked over to me, shaking my hand firmly. He'd never been this nice to me which was scary almost.
"We've made a decision" said her Mom "we'd like to offer you your position back, as Athena's bodyguard"
I stood up, my eyebrows raised as Athena stood up too, grabbing my arm and looking up at me. I looked down at her, then at her parents.
"I'd love to come back"
She squealed with excitement, wrapping her arms around my neck and hugging me excitedly. Her parents smiled at us, then at each other before quietly slipping away back to the event.
"I'm so happy" she whispered against my chest. I smiled too, my arms around her waist as I hugged her tightly. I've never missed something more.
She pulled away, still in my arms and looking up at me. Her eyes flickered down to my lips and I leaned. Our lips met in a perfect second, nothing holding us back as her hands laced around my neck again. She pulled me closer, lower to match her height.
She smiled against my lips, opening her eyes to look at me looking back at her.
"I've missed you, lover" she spoke, her words drawing me in and making me want her more. She took a small step back, allowing some space between us and placing her hands on my chest.
"I've missed you more, wifey"
She blushed hard at my words, her hands smoothing out my suit as she looked back at the event.
"Can we please go home?"
I nodded, taking her hand in mine and walking towards the exit. The contempt feeling going through me was something I had waited so long for.
