Summary:

The Japanese education system, to hear people tell of it, is a merciless taskmaster, focused on rote learning and gruelling memory tests. New teacher Kagami Junichirou (Kamiya Hiroshi) is here to revolutionise the Japanese high school. Before he was a teacher, he was just some nerd, mulling at home and blogging about anime and all that generic nerd stuff. However, before he was just some nerd, Junichirou was actually an unparalleled genius celebrated in the scientific community, but for allegedly pathological reasons, he lost all his motivation. Not wanting to see Junichirou languish at home, his sister Suzune (Matsui Rena) signs him up to work as a physics teacher. But teaching high school science is boring. Junichirou instead takes it upon himself to guide his flock to finding something worth learning themselves. His methods are unorthodox, but he gets results. A maverick like Kagami Junichirou may just be what is needed to revitalise Japan’s next generation.

Own opinion:

Another season, another anime about some otaku at some high school. Why are so many anime set in high schools, anyway? One theory is that high school is the last chance for dreams and imagination before Japanese society stomps it out of you and expect it will have a shipping war again. ltimate Teacher is not just your average high school harem comedy. It is a celebration of individualism in a highly collectivist society, a social commentary that becomes increasingly important as modern Japan seems to slide further back into its old nationalistic lines. It also doesn’t hurt that Denpa Kyoushi is good fun. Kagami-sensei teaches a lot of quirky characters with quirky problems, and this show adheres closely to its core philosophy: to be interesting.
