It is half time, we are losing.
"Come on, guys, we can do this. You can play better than that. I need teamwork, I need unity. Whatever differences you have, leave them in this fucking locker room and paint a united front out there. Win!" She bangs her board on the locker. We all flinch, this game is important to us all. It is a qualifier, important if we want scholarships.
Rayi stand up to talk
"Guys, we can do this, we all have reasons why this sport is important to us, let us prove that out there. We all know they are not better than us but it is about who wants it more and who wants it more?"
The locker room in unison "WE DO!"
"Then let's prove it on the court!" Rayi says leading us back to the court.
My parents are here like they always are. They are the most supportive people I know, they are all I have. Kate and Sibo are also here but Kate will not talk to me. I have not spotted Kai, I figured he will not show.
"Let's get it!" The game resumes and we pour our hearts out on the court and we lost. It was extremely close but we still lost. Deflated we all head to the showers.
"Guys, it's okay. It will all work out." Rele says.
"This was our shot and we lost it, there is no hope. Let us not act like there is. We played our hearts out and that is all that matters." Enhle says as she goes into a shower. She is right, there is nothing more after this. I have already showered so I am putting on my underwear.
"We all going to Kate's right?" They all look at me.
"Guys, Kate and I fought so I don't know if she wants me there but I will make an appearance and if she says I must leave, I will." They all send their condolences and we move past it to talk about their boyfriends when Sanisha references Kai.
"Yeah who was that?" My cheeks go red and I start fighting with the hem of my shirt.
"A friend." The coos are loud so I walk out and head to my parents to tell them that I am going to Kate's tonight. They are lenient but to a point.
"Mommy and Daddy..." My mother interrupts my attempt.
"What do you want, Nana?" I love this woman, straight to the point, can not spoon-feed her bullshit.
"Kate is having a party tonight and I want to go." They look at each other and shrug because they know I will sneak out, I have done it before.
"Are you sleeping over at her house?" I nod and they sigh.
"If you keep sleeping over at your friend's house, I am going to put your room up for rent." My mom jokes
"And I will have to find another daughter." My dad joins in.
"Okay, okay, I get it, I will be home tomorrow." They nod before we hug and they leave. I look around the bench and I can not notice Kate or Sibo, I wanted to confirm that I still have an invite, I also need someone to take me there. Kate's house is not far but it is pretty late so I would like to be safe. I decide to wait for the girls so I can go with them.
Taking my phone out of my pocket, I notice a message from Sibo
"I'm sorry you lost kid, it's alright, you are destined for amazing things count this as a stepping stone. I love you and so does Kate."
At least I know she has not completely abandoned our friendship. I would love to talk to her tonight but if she does not want me to talk to her then I will call a cab and go home.
The girls walk out and I ask Jessica and Rayi for a ride. They are dating so they are almost always together and you will third wheel heavily but they are cute. They used to hate each other so it is beautiful to see them loving on each other like this.
"Kamo, so what are you gonna do now that we did not qualify?" Jessica asks as we are about to exit the courts.
"I have not figured it out yet, why?" Rayi nudges her girlfriend to talk.
"My dad has a few internships if you want to apply, please don't think I am treating you like a charity case." I laugh because that was the most genuine help I have received in a while.
"Don't be silly, thank you, I will apply when I get home. Thank you." A smile cracks on their faces. Hand in hand they lead the way out of the school.
As we walk out, I notice a matte black G-Wagon, no one in our school owns a black G-wagon. Someone steps out and I can not make out who it is.
"Who is that hunk?" Rayi comments. I shrug my shoulders until we get close enough and I notice that it is Kai. A smile slipped onto my face, I stride over to his car and jump into his arms, he is surprised but catches me with one arm and places a kiss on my forehead.
"How did it go?" He asks while I take his scent in.
"We lost the qualifier so no championship for us." I uncage myself from him, he helps me down.
"Thank you guys for offering to take me and thank you for that tip, see you at the party." They nod and make their way to their car.
Kai takes my things before putting them into the backseat. He hoists me to his chest, his hands on my ass, his eyes looking into mine.
"I want to fuck you so this thing of yours, better not take too much time." I love when he spoke like this. His hair in between my fingers, I pull him into a kiss. He takes over, I initiate and he takes over and dominates. Teamwork. His hands travel so I wrap my legs tighter.
When his hand tries going into my shirt, I break away.
"We are in my school parking lot. That can wait until we are in your bed." He spanks my ass before heading to the passenger side of the car, while I am on his chest with my legs wrapped around his abdomen.
"I had a falling out with the host so we might not take long at the party but I will socialize a bit and introduce you to my friends." His hand on my thigh occasionally his fingers travel inside my shorts.
"Do you really want me to meet your friends?" Grabbing his hand, interlacing our fingers and placing it on my waist.
"The reason the host and I fought is because of you." He better help me fix this mess. The house is nearly full. They are usually outside. Inside for drunk people, outside for tipsy people and upstairs for people fucking.
Having Kai here, people just walk out of his way.
By the bench under the tree, Sibo and Kate are sitting. Near the pool, it is the squad. The squad first then Sibo and Kate.
"Hey, guys." I greet. They are all with their partners. They greet us. "This is Kai." He nods a nod, a curt nod. No 'hey', no 'how are you guys' I hope it goes better with Sibo and Kate.
We walk over to Kate and Sibo, thankfully they are alone.
