Hours had slipped away, and as the day waned, Mercy found her arm wrapped around Heeseung's back. 'Sometimes I dread the day I debut.'

'Why?' Heeseung inquired, securing his grip on her arms, keeping her close.

'Because I won't be able to see you anymore,' Mercy confessed in a whisper, immediately clearing her throat. Her words felt inappropriate, didn't they? 'You're a good friend.'

Heeseung scoffed, and Mercy couldn't discern if it was out of amusement or annoyance.

'Friend,' he chuckled. 'Yeah.'

'Hm?' Mercy questioned, sensing a chill in his tone. Before she could explore further, he gently shrugged her off and began to walk along the lake's shore. 'Tell me about you and Yeonjun-hyung?'

'What do you want to know?' she asked, matching his pace.

'Did you love him?' Heeseung probed.

'We were happy enough,' Mercy chuckled, glancing at him, perplexed by his sudden interest in her past relationship (or rather, situationship). 'It was never official — or officially stated. We held hands, kissed a few times, slept in the same bed at night.'

'Why did it end?' Heeseung questioned. 'Yeonjun-hyung is. . . talented.'

'Yes, he is,' Mercy acknowledged with a gentle smile. 'I'm not sure what changed. We were happy, attracted to one another, and then. . . we weren't. I just know that a romantic relationship with him would somehow be less than the friendship we had, and that we have now.'

Heeseung stopped, turning his entire body toward her. 'And what do you have now?'

'He is just my friend,' Mercy insisted.

Heeseung nodded. 'Am I just a friend?'

Taken aback for a moment, Mercy's face softened. She looked down, seemingly lost in thought. Slowly, she edged closer to him, placing a hand on his chest.

'Heeseung. . .' she whispered.

Heeseung inched closer, his lips dangerously close to hers. 'Am I just a friend, Mina?'

A soft chuckle escaped her lips before she pressed them to his.
