SAMANTHA's POV

"Yes," I tell her. "He said he likes me".

Anna narrows her eyes to slits. "I don't trust that guy".

"Azin ehh! Player like him.. mtcheww! He is so proud. He thinks I will fall for him like other girls," I hiss and roll my eyes. I drop my ball on the floor and begin to dribble. School has closed for the day and I'm done with football practice. Anna decided to wait for me so we can study together before we leave the school.

"Please...who are the other girls? I don't like him oo," she says immediately.

"I know," I chuckle. "I'm sure he knows he is good-looking and he then thinks he can control any girl with it. He don miss road cos I will slap him to reality".

"So what did you tell him after he told you that?"

"My mind! I said my own because e no concern me. Na me send am to like me ni? Mtcheww!" The ball rolls away from me and I jog after it. I get the ball and jog back.

Anna is sitting on the grassy field, her legs crossed elegantly. She glances up and the sun ray forces her to look down. "Do you like him?"

I slam my palm to my forehead. "Are you deaf? How many times will I say no to that question?"

"I feel you should avoid him. Anything love or crush shouldn't be involved in teenagers' lives. We need to focus on our books," she begins and I could tell she wants to start a sermon for me. "2 Timothy 2:22 says, So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart".

I shrug. "You have said this verse before".

"It's just a reminder. Song of Solomon 8:4 says, adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that you not stir up or awaken love until it pleases".

"Anna," I say as I force my ball into my big school bag. "Do you know why I don't like having this kind of conversation with you?"

"Why?" She asks and rises to her feet. She dusts her skirt and picks up her bag. She shrugs it on and sends an expectant smile to me.

"Because you speak in a way that is kind of not practical to human sef. I haven't had a crush on anyone nor have I liked any guy. No guy is worth me right now. But I know some people have and they can't just shut the feeling down so....I don't know whether this your advice will help them".

"It's what the Bible says na. We must follow the Bible. I'm not the one saying it"

"So a person can't have a crush on someone or love?"

"We are too young for that so...no! You can't allow yourself to have crush"

"Allow? When it comes to crush, it happens before you even know it. Ah ahan!"

"Have you ever had a crush on someone?"

"No!"

"Then don't talk"

"Have you ever had a crush on someone?" I ask her with squinted eyes.

She opens her mouth to speak but no words come out. She shakes her head and replies, "No!"

"Then it's decided. You shouldn't talk too"

"But the Bible says..."

"Abeg, free me. Na Chemistry we agreed to learn oo. No stress me"

She sighs and nods her head.

I don't know much on having crush on someone but I know the feeling exists and I don't think it can be shut down or can it be?
