DANIEL'S POV
"I heard that all the school electric device for lectures have been delivered. Thank God because I'm tired of this pen and book style. How can we be paying millions and the tablet for classes and computer room is not well equipped," Boma hisses and drives his hands down his trouser pockets, shivering when the wind blows past him.
"Dude, it's just been two months oo! You know that the school wanted to change everything to a new one. They had some challenges in the delivery date. Nothing much."
"E no concern me. Don't defend them. They should just make learning easier for us," he replies and we turn our gaze to the girl explaining to Nora, the Head girl why she painted her nails. They argue back and forth. Nora had caused this rebellion. She had painted her nails this week. I seriously don't understand how she is the head girl. It doesn't make any sense.
"Dude, I watched the new movie your dad acted in. Omo! Your dad's my favorite actor. The way he acted like a secret agent was too fresh," he exclaims and begins to point out his favorite scenes. We are laughing, students matching to their class after the assembly.
"Daniel," Sam's voice butt in. We swing our eyes to her. She is walking towards us with the principal behind her. "He's a witness ma."
"Who?" Boma exclaims, his voice dragging with shock. "I didn't witness anything oo. In fact, I'm late for class." He spins and darts away. I'm left alone, my eyes brimming in their sockets.
"Daniel," Mrs Dozie calls. "Sam is saying she has been dizzy since morning and her eye are twitching."
"Yes ma!" Sam's voice rises with an unfamiliar pitch, nervousness a big patch on it. "They are just blinking by themselves. I didn't wink at you ma. I was trying to check if it's you but I got so dizzy and ran to my class to rest my head."
"Is it true Daniel?"
"Eh....Well she ran to school this morning and almost fell down— "
She cuts in. "Yes! I ran to school because I didn't want to be late. I left my driver in the middle of the road because of the traffic."
"What?" Mrs Dozie exclaims.
"Yes ma!" She winks and points to her eyes. "It's twitching again. I'm sure it is because of the way I ran. I haven't eaten since money too."
Mrs Dozie eyes her suspiciously. "Okay then."
"Thank you ma," she genuflects and I almost choked on my saliva.
Mrs Dozie has wide eyes as she leaves.
"I'm a changed girl ma," Sam voices to her. When Mrs Dozie leaves, I ask: "What's doing on?"
"I winked at our principal. It was by mistake oo."
"So you lied?"
"Change can't happen that fast. It's a gradual process. I won't do it again."
"Wait! Why do you want to change?"
She goes silent.
"Why?"
"Aargh!" She echoes and explains it to me. We walk side by side into the school building. Assembly was over and the bell had been rung for our first class.
"That's gonna be tough."
"What do you mean?"
"No offense but have you seen your grades? You'll need to work extra hard to get that good score you talking about," I disclose and shrug.
