DANIEL'S POV
"It's crazy, really! Just crazy," she exclaims. "How people believe in love... It's just crazy".
"Hmm....Okay!" Boma replies with a shrug.
"Love is seen as the most beautiful thing by all. I was naive. I believed it all. I found him. I didn't fall that easily but I did. I shut my mind and chose the rhythm of my heartbeat, the instructions of my heart. Is my heart at fault? I'm yet to find out. But after all these, I still got it broken. I poured my heart and soul into a glass cup and handed it to a guy who tossed it from the top of a skyscraper. Indeed, my heart broke and it can never be redeemed".
"So the answer to our question is no, right?" Boma asks.
"Guess!"
Boma raise a brow at her, mumbles incoherent words and turns to me. "What's her problem?"
I shrug. "I guess the answer is no. She hasn't moved on".
Her expression is indecipherable as she nods her head in agreement. Her shoulders are still slouched and that pitch of sorrow is hovering over her. I remember how we met or should I say, how I found her? She was in the balcony and I wanted to check the field from there. On going in, I heard her sobbing and decided to lend my listening ear to her. That's how we met. Ugochi is her name. I'm glad I was there. She was literally considering suicide.
"Why can't you move on?" Boma snaps and rises to his feet. The sun is casting its ray on us while we hang around the balcony. Boma is leaning on the wall with his hand dug into his pockets. I'm resting on the pillar close to the edge of the balcony. The fresh breeze just gives me this chilled vibe that I'm enjoying. Ugochi is standing, her body rigid as she scans us with a grimace on her face. It is our break time and I had told Ugochi I wanted to speak to her. Boma insisted on following me because he had gotten suspicious about our relationship.
Mumu was wondering if I've finally decided to start dating.
I introduced him to her and we've been talking since. Our lunchtime is over but we still have topics to cover in our talk. "The guy you are crying about has a girlfriend and to me, he looks so happy. What about you? You don't deserve happiness?" Boma deadpans, his jaw clenchs with every word.
"Don't say that to me. You don't know the magnitude of pain I'm going through"
"Pain? So? You don't look like someone who wants to overcome it. You want to swim in that pain"
"Shut up!"
"Every since we started this discussion, you've been rude to me but not just to me, to Daniel too. When he's trying to help you or bring humor to make you laugh, you cut him short. You're chasing the ones that love you with this your new attitude. You just want to continue in your pain. You ask if we have every faced this. But the thing is pain is pain. We all have faced some level of pain and heartbreak. We want to help you move on but you tell us to shut up. If we agree to shut up, you'll continue with this lifestyle that will take you nowhere".
Ugochi's mouth hangs open and this brings fear to me. I don't want him to push her deeper into the pain she's trying to fight. If she gets hurt more, how will she ever heal. The thought of Boma's words causing more wounds to her scarred heart aggravates me and I yell, "Boma, STOP!"
He narrows his eyes at me.
"She is going through a lot so it might be hard for her to move on. Please, don't make things worse for her".
"I know but the truth should be told. Ah! She's just making her life look so worthless. She's acting like she can never find joy again. And while all this is happening, the guy is enjoying himself. Are you mad ni? So you no deserve joy abi? You wan kill yourself for man?"
