“Aunt Eden, Aunt Eden,” I yell running towards my aunt.
“How is my favorite nephew?” she asks with a big smile on her face.
“I’m your only nephew, Aunt Eden,” I say giggling.
Before she could say anything, we heard the front door close. Moments later my uncles enter the living.
“Uncle Evan, Uncle Wyatt,” calling out to them full of excitement as I run towards.
Uncle Wyatt picks me up, holding me upside down as I laugh. “Uncle Wyatt.”
“How was your day at school?” Uncle Evan questions while Uncle Wyatt puts me back down.
“School was great besides the mean students.”
“What mean students, Kendric?” Uncle Wyatt inquires.
Aunt Eden quickly asks, “do your parents know?”
“They ask why I am so dark when my daddy is white or about my mom being dead. When I thought Ms. Essence was dead. Daddy and Ms. Essence know.”
“All I know is, I going to the playground at recess and whoop some kid’s ass.”
“OOOOOOOOO, Uncle Evan you said a bad word.”
“I’ll give $2.00.”
“Make it $25.00,” I state smiling.
“I’ll pay you later kid-o. Are we on still for dinner?”
“Yeah, Kendric and I are stuck with you two.” Aunt Eden says.
Sitting beside my aunt she leans down giving me a big hug before she speaks, “you will never know how much you saved me.”
