"Chaeyoung," you groaned as you dropped your head onto her chest, finding the pain to be almost too much to bear.

"It's okay. I'm right here." She soothed as she let you lean against her.

She could feel your nails sinking into the palms of her hands as you gripped them tightly, groaning against her skin as she held you close.

You're seven hours into this. The agonizing pain was pretty terrible right off the bat and it just keeps getting worse and worse every minute.

And seeing you like this breaks Chae's heart. She's doing all she can to help, letting you do whatever you need at this point if it'll bring you any sort of relief.

Your baby is getting closer and closer to joining the world.

The doctor keeps popping in on occasion to check the progress you've made.

But he confirmed your baby is still hours away from being born, much to your dismay.

And Chaeyoung is desperate to help you that letting you lean against her and squeeze her hands so hard she feels them tingle when you pull away is the least she feels she can do and she's happy to help.

"Breathe," she encouraged. "You can do it. Just breathe through it."

It was hard to do.

She can tell it was getting harder to breathe through the pain every time it hit and she could also tell that you were feeling discouraged.

"You're okay, my love," she whispered comfortingly as you pulled back.

You swallowed thickly and tried to catch your breath. Chaeyoung reached over to brush the beads of sweat gathered on your forehead away.

"I don't know how much longer I can do this." You whimpered. "It's too much. I don't think I can do it anymore."

She didn't know what to say to make you feel better.

Obviously, there's no changing your mind and going back on this. Your baby is joining the world and your body is demanding that, making it very clear that you really don't have a choice in this.

But she knew that saying those words out loud would do more harm than good in these moments and what you need right now is comfort and encouragement.

"It's too much. It just keeps getting worse, Chaeyoung. And I know there's still a few hours to go. I don't think I'm going to make it through it."

"Shh, don't say that, darling." She whispered as she cupped your cheeks. "You're doing such a great job. I'm in awe of you."

You scoffed and she just shook her head, a small smile tugging at her lips.

"I mean it. Seeing all you're doing as you get closer and closer to bringing our baby into the world is so incredible. You're so strong, so much more capable than you think you are."

"I don't feel like it. I feel like it's never going to end, like they'll never come. It's like the hours are dragging by."

"That's because you're hurting so much." She whispered. "And that's expected. We knew some pain would be involved with bringing a human into the world, right?"

You nodded a little, your teary eyes locked with hers.

"I know it's so intense and so terrible, even worse than you thought it'd be. But that's okay, because you're getting through it so well, even though you think you aren't. I'd be screaming at the top of my lungs by now, scaring everyone in this hospital half to death."

You chuckled a little and sniffled as she stroked your cheek.

"There's that cute little smile," she whispered happily. "You're doing amazing, y/n. I promise you. I'm so proud of you."

You were about to speak when the pain returned and, unsurprisingly, even worse than before.

You gasped and then groaned again. You squeezed your eyes shut and Chaeyoung intertwined her fingers with yours as soon as it hit, your head on her chest.

"Breathe, my love." She reminded you. "You're doing so good."

It stopped a moment later and you pulled away with a shaky breath.

"I'm going to start screaming." You warned, a small smile tugging at your lips as you reminded her of her words a moment or two ago. "I don't think I can hold it back anymore."

"That's okay." She said. "I understand. Scream as loud as you need. I still won't let you go."

"You promise you won't let go of me?" You whispered as it sank in that it won't be much longer until you're going to have to bring your baby into the world, and it's making you a little anxious.

"Baby, there's nowhere else I'd rather be. I'm here with you, right by your side every step of the way." She promised. "I won't let you go. Through it all, I'll be right here."

You put your head on her shoulder and closed your eyes, already knowing it wouldn't be much longer until the pain would hit again.

"I love you." She whispered in your ear.

"I love you too." You spoke back to her, feeling so grateful that you've got her by your side through all of this.
