I slowly opened my heavy lids and could see light flooding through the hollow. The sun's rays warmed everything it touched, including my skin. I slowly lifted my heavy head and brushed some leaves and stray twigs from my heavily knotted hair. I yawned loudly and looked around for Mochi.

"Arf!" I saw him appear in the entrance to the hollow. He was dragging something about five times the size of him, and I strained my eyes against the sunlight to identify the object.

"Wh-What is that?" I shrunk back in horror as the tiny dog settled down and chewed on the rather human looking bone.

"Good Morning human." My heart felt like it was about to stop, as fright and adrenaline quickly sped through my veins. I had no idea I was being watched, and moreover, by Felix.

"Don't do that! You nearly gave me a heart attack dummy!" He took a step back and looked incredibly offended. I held my trembling fingers over my pounding heart and took a deep breath. He stepped back out of the hollow and I could hear him mumbling to himself outside. I crawled out behind him, and stepped into the brilliant light of day. A cool breeze had picked up and I wrapped my arms around myself.

"Look after her Felix. Don't let her die Felix." He spoke in a mocking tone and then let out a hefty sigh. "I didn't even want to look at the human. Let alone be charged with her safety."

"Thanks. But you can leave. I don't need your protection. I'm going to find a way home." I folded my arms across my chest and looked at him. As much as I enjoyed looking at his unbelievably handsome face, his personality left a lot to be desired.

He burst into laughter after my statement, and I couldn't help noticing how perfect his teeth were. He shook his head and doubled over. He held his sides and slapped his thigh as though I had just told him the funniest joke ever.

"Do you not get it human?" He asked once he was done. "You cannot find a way home. You are trapped." He continued chuckling to himself and my mood shifted to anger.

"What do you mean?"

"The ancient magic that protects our home is like a bubble. Every time you reach the edge, it directs you in a circle. All life contained in this forest stems from the Eldridgian oak tree at the center." He explained.

"The magical one?" I asked. He rolled his eyes.

"No. The one chopped down. Of course the magical one."

"No need to be a jerk about it." I huffed. His amused smiled was adorable, and I couldn't help feeling like the sun shined a little brighter whenever he showed happiness. Maybe he was warming to me slightly. Even if he didn't want to.

"That tree is the entrance to our kingdom. If you try and escape... you will be returned to the tree. As are all living beings in these lands."

"I have to get back. Yoonjun is going to be frantic!" I stamped my foot and Felix's face shifted from amused to rage in a second. His sword was drawn and the tip just about grazed my throat.

"Do not speak that name here!" He roared. His booming voice echoed around the trees for what felt like an eternity. Part of my Mother's song quickly passed through my mind.

Don't go into the Eldridge Forest, the trees there whisper their tales.

They'll order the creatures to hunt you down now, and surely you will be impaled.

If ever there was a time I was going to be impaled... It would be now. The frightful feeling of knowing Felix could murder me and stage an accident suddenly dawned on me. I had no doubt plenty of the elves would be happy to see me disappear so he could easily get away with it.
