LUCAS AND I faced them with our hands intertwined. I even almost rolled my eyes on them as I see how their eyes sparkled with so much bright, boldly displaying their happiness and agreement even though we still hadn't say anything. Napabuntong-hininga ako. Malakas ang pakiramdam ko na iba ang inaasahan nila kaysa sa napagdesisyunan namin.
"Mom," both me and Lucas called, referring to our own mothers.
Mommy and Tita Monique responded to us with hopeful and almost teary eyes. Napatingin ako kay Lucas at diretso lang ang tingin niya kay Tita Monique na sobra na ngayon kung makangiti sa aming dalawa. Oh shoot! It would feel really bad to destroy their expectations, but are they really expecting us to get married this... young!?
I know I'm not one to talk. After all, I've already experienced two lives. Pero literally speaking, as Loraine, I just turned eighteen! No matter how you look at it, it's very early!
"Mom, Tita... We're---"
Before I could even continue what I have to say, they both immediately shifted to my side, casting away Lucas then clung to my arms.
"So when's the wedding dear?" Tita Monique
"I'll make sure to prepare the perfect gown, honey," Mom.
I closed my eyes as I felt suddenly dizzy about their concerns. Ah, I can't believe they're really serious. I can already imagine them, facing us as we currently are in front of a priest for a wedding. I'm sure the people--- strangers rather who are gonna attend the ceremony will not think about it too lightly. For a philanderer, suddenly Lucas would wanna settle with just 'a' girl? And an eighteen year old at that!?
Kung ako man ang mapupunta sa posisyon ng ibang tao. I would assume that he got me pregnant or anything serious for him to actually consider the marriage. Oh, screw those judgemental asses!
"Mom, Tita.. we aren't getting married." Marahan kong hinila ang braso ko sa kanila. They suddenly looked disappointed and shocked. They really didn't see it coming, huh?
"W-Why? Teresa told me that you two are getting along so well! She said you two already kissed and even slept together! Don't tell me you're going to leave it like that?" Biglang naghihisteryang sabi ni Tita Monique. Hindi ko rin gusto ang tingin sa akin ni Mommy. What? WHAT!?
"Mom, it's not what you think.." pilit kalmado kong sabi kay Mommy. Wait, are they seriously thinking that me and Lucas already...? C'mon, yes we slept on the same bed together several times. But we didn't stray far from kissing and cuddling!
"Then, why won't you get married?" Striktong sabi niya. Napalunok ako sa sobrang pagkaoverwhelm. I didn't expect this. I already knew that the maids were at Tita Monique's disposal pero hindi ko inakala na sasabihin iyon ni Ate Teresa sa kanya.
But it's not really her fault. Never ko naman nabanggit sa kanila na wala akong balak na pakasalan agad si Lucas. But still! If they're going to tell Lucas' mother about us, sana man lang sinabi muna nila sa amin para nalinaw muna namin agad. Hindi sana ito lalaki ng ganito.
"Mom, we didn't do it yet. I just cuddled with her, nothing more." Cold na sabi ni Lucas kay Tita Monique. Naningkit naman ang mata ni Tita. ..
"You really think I would believe that? Just say it if you're not serious with her. I've been keeping quiet about your girls all this time but if you're just playing with Loraine, makakatikim ka na sakin, Lucas." Maski ako ay nagulat sa biglang pag-iba ng tono ni Tita Monique. I suddenly felt nervous and scared at her. I've always pictured Tita Monique as a sweet and happy-go-lucky woman. It's so unusual to see her this strict and authorative. She's giving off an aura that's almost the same as Lucas.
