The missions keep staying the same. Over and over you have to look for the demons and proof their existence and only one time you weren't successful. Hachiko is the exorcist and soon you find out that she uses the water breathing style.
You remember Giyu and his lifeless eyes that absorb you like a calm vortex. Everything on him is like an opposite. But he's easy to handle... except his attacks with the katana.

It's a riddle why Hachiko didn't join Giyu who could teach her how to raise her water breathing skills but you already know the answer: Tengen-sama is cooler.

Of course Hachiko isn't a beginner and sometimes you are impressed by her way of fighting but it's nothing she'll get a way higher rank with. She'll never become a hashira like that.

You are bored of the 'partner work' but you want to get a real mission as soon as possible. That's why you do your work properly like a dog waiting for a goodie. But even though it annoys you, you do as Tengen-sama said and watch Hachiko, chat with her and try to tell what'll be her next move.
Overall you try to understand her.
Because of that you start liking her and her sometimes clumsy behavior. She seems too greedy and innocent for the world of the demon slayers. Also she gives you the impression that she likes you too.

"Hachiko", you one day ask on you way to your 9th mission, "may I know why you joined the demon slayer corps?"
Tiny clouds appear when talking.

You breath heavily because of the exhausting walk through the mud and mist in the dark.
At first Hachiko's breathing and the sucking noise of the ground is your only response.
You have to stay directly behind her to not lose her in the mist.

"My grandpa died because of a demon and since then my whole family is scared of them. So am I. But I want them to feel safe. I want them to know that I'll protect them because I am the only one in my family who is able to do so." she finally answers.

"Your parents must be proud of you."

"They are."

"Do you have a certain aim...like becoming a hashira?" you want to know.

Hachiko shakes her head.
"Being a hashira is a lot of responsibility. I am happy with being every rank between now and a hashira."

"Interesting."

The mist gets thicker and swallows every noise around you. To be honest it's a very good hiding spot for a demon and it's very difficult for you to find it. All of your senses don't work like they should because of the environment. You're like mice in a cage trying to find the cat that's sitting on top of the cage watching you hungrily.

"I don't like this mission." Hachiko speaks out your thought.

"Yeah, me neither."

Hachiko grabs her sword, ready to use it as soon as something moves. Your job here is unnecessary. There's no use in proofing the demon's existence when you literally can't see him. If he's here, he'll find you, not the opposite. Right now you're only like a millstone around Hachiko's neck and you hate that.

Suddenly there's a cracking sound.
Hachiko and you stand still, listening to your surrounding, your eyes jumping from one side to another.
What was that?
Your heart is beating loudly, your hand is on your katana.
Again there's the cracking noise and something scurrys fastly next to you. It's too dark to see what it is. You jump around, drawing your katana.
There's a cracking and an evil chuckle.
It's here, it's here, it's here.

The next thing you can see is a pair of red eyes staring into yours. The cold nose of the demon nearly touches yours and the disgusting smell of death surrounds it.
You're too slow. The moment you want to hit it, it already vanished in the mist and a shocked scream of a woman's voice echoes from far away. You turn around to find yourself alone. Where there's been Hachiko are only her footprints left.

"Fuck" you whisper.

It was difficult enough to find the demon. How are you supposed to now find Hachiko and it?

"HACHIKO!!!" you yell.
There's no answer.
You start running into the direction where you heard her scream and yell again.

"Y/N!" you then hear an answer. More a scream than an answer.

It comes from the same direction you are heading to, luckily.
You try to ignore the fact that Hachiko screaming your name was the last noise you heard of her.
Because of the mud you're not really quiet. The sucking sound of it rings loudly in your ears mingling with your panic.
As you keep running the mist vanishes. Soon you find yourself on an open field framed by a forest. The mist lies on the ground, giving you free sight over the field.

In the distance is a shade, sitting on the ground. In front of it is another shadow. You can smell the demon from here.

You try to sneak to not get noticed by the demon but it's impossible to hide because on a bare field....isn't anything!
That's why you are confused that it doesn't look at you or shows any movement. He should have heard you running here. It wasn't quite at all.

What's it doing over there and where's Hachiko?

Barely breathing to stay invisible you step on something hard. You look down and see a shimmering object. Your eyes jump from the demon to the object, then you bow down to look at it.
You'd love to curse when recognizing what it is.

If Hachiko lost her katana, how high is the chance of her being still alive?

You grab the katana from the ground and sadly it's not broken. If I'd been broken, it would have meant that Hachiko still is able to fight. But now there's the possibility that the demon cut of her hand or arm, causing the katana to drop here.

With a curse in your mind you step towards the demon, ready to kill it even though you're not allowed to fight.
Who cares if you killed a demon without permission when it killed the only one with permission?

As you get nearer you can see the scenery that's going on. The demon sits on top of Hachiko's body, licking over her wrist and arm. (luckily she still has both of them)
He's smelling like the drains of rotten houses where you usually expect demons to appear.
His white skin reflects the moonlight and reveals his muscular body. Not as muscular as Tengen-sama's but still..
it's obvious that he eats regularly.
You take a deep breath. A deep concentrated breath.

The demon is so obsessed with Hachiko's soft and yummy skin he doesn't notice you in time.
Without any noise you suddenly are behind it and throw it off Hachiko.
An angry hiss echoes over the field. You eye Hachiko and wait for her chest to move up and down. The moment you can see it is your sign to fight, no matter what.
She's still alive so you have to keep it that way.

"YOU LITTLE SLUT!" the demon yells, even though being suddenly next to you.

He's fast. You gotta be faster.

You hit him with your katana causing him to scream in anger. He jumps back a little and eyes you and Hachiko. You can tell he's making a strategy in his head but you won't give him the time to do so.

"Shadow breathing, third form, shadowcage" you say with a firm voice.

The demon raises its head to look at you and you dash forward. Your katana flies around the demon, cutting him all over the body. He screams and trys to escape out of your attack what's causing him to only get deeper cuts. The mean part of 'shadowcage' is that the imprisoned will get hurt more severely the longer he's caught .

Then the demon starts using his own blood demon art. Big spikes shoot out of the ground surrounding him. They have the size of a sheep and larger. If you wouldn't have seen that attack coming you would have been full of holes by now.

Now you are the one jumping back. You attack the demon several times again but as soon as he uses its spikes you can't go on. The problem is that you can't cut the spikes and the demon's head off at the same time. But this is the only way to defeat it.
There's no helping hand so...what should you do?
You remember the katana of Hachiko on your waist. Well...you have two hands, why not use two weapons?
