The second I stepped into the restaurant I felt out of place, and I was immensely grateful that Lucius had insisted on both paying and ordering for me.

"So, Percy, what did you do before coming to Hogwarts?" Narcissa asked as our food came.

"Actually, I was teaching swordplay to a different group of kinds in the United States,"

"Oh? What type of 'different group'?" Lucius asked and I grinned,

"I have Dyslexia and ADHD, and swordplay, helped me a lot with that, so I taught a group of kids with similar issues," I explained

"How did you manage to get such a high position then?" Draco blurted out and I blushed

"Draco!" Narcissa scolded, but I just took a bite of my food, it was good, even if I didn't know what it was. Lucius seemed to study me, not scolding Draco like his mother was,

"I guess it's a mix between, who my father is and the power I received from him,"

"Your father?" Lucius prompts, "I don't think I've ever heard of a wizarding family called 'Jackson',"

"No- Jackson is my mom's maiden name," I snorted, "Of course, she's changed it now when she re-married,"

"Oh?" Narcissa asked, "If your father is that powerful why did your mother divorce him,"

"Oh- they didn't marry, my father's family doesn't really work that way, us mor- -er children, are free to marry and have a life, provided we can survive long enough to do so,"

"Survive?!" Draco shirked and I smiled gently at him, turning towards Lucius and Narcissa,

"I've been through two wars already, both non-wizards related but both just as terrible," I said, "That is why I've declared myself neutral in this one,"

I lowered my voice, "I know that you, Lucius, and I guess by extent your lord, are curious as to where I came from, but I suggest you focus on one war at a time," Lucius considered my words, flicking a gaze once to Narcissa, and then another time to Draco before settling on my and leaning back, and going back to his food,

"Draco mentions you have a girlfriend?" He asked and I grinned,

"Yeah, she's amazing," I said, taking another bite of my food, "Of course, people often say that she's the smart one between the two of us," I added causing Draco to snicker and Narcissa to scold him. I didn't mind, so I sent a wink his way.

"So, Lucius, any interesting cases in the ministry lately?" I asked and a slow, rare, grin spread across his face,

"Quite- we are slowly coming to a close on this new Dark Creatures clause, it gives more rights to creatures such as werewolves and giants, of course, the giants can't be integrated into cities and towns, but we can create a stronghold in their towns." He said before scowling, "That is if Dumbledore would hope off, the clause, he's been punching holes in it left and right,"

Wait. What? I gaped at him with wide eyes,

"Percy, did Dumbledore... disillusion you?" Narcissa asked gently, apparently seeing my expression, but I shook my head,

"No- no- not exactly, I mean I'm not his biggest fan, I know he's an ass- there's a reason his name literally has 'dumb' in it, but I didn't think he'd be so- er- public? About it,"

(A/n: @dorrenmn)

"He's not- he's always done a good job at making people look the other way," Lucius pointed out and I nodded studying my meal in front of me.

"I think... Dumbledore has had a long life," I tried not to think about it, taking one life wouldn't add to another but..., "Sometimes I hate him for that, too many people die too young," Draco sucked in a breath, it was quiet but I caught it, I smiled and reached over, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder,

"This is war, Draco," I said softly, "Good people are going to die, good people on both sides," Draco's face was pale from fear and I swallowed,

"But I promise, that anyone who is a student at Hogwarts, will not share that fate," I said firmly and Draco took a shuddering breath and nodded firmly, sealing himself. I turned to his parents,

"I know that you have different means of swearing, but my kind does something different," I said rolling up my sleeve and showing my SPQR brand, "This is a brand, many Roman soldiers used to get, and so, we, like the Roman's used to, swear on River Styx,"

"What happens if you break such a bond?" Lucius asked, eying the mark as if trying to commit it to memory. I shrugged,

"Dunno, no one's dared in many millennia, but it is said that they will be faced with a fate 'worse than death', I think that's because since the moment you say the oath the fates are watching, so they'll judge you accordingly. It doesn't help that we also believe in the Underworld, and well... if you read some of the stories you'll understand,"

"Would you be willing to take such an oath?" Narcissa asked under her breath and I looked over at her, technically I already promised her, but no one held me to such an oath. I nodded,

"I swear on River Styx that I will protect the students of Hogwarts, through the war, and if necessary, until they graduate," I said, the roll of thunder could be heard through the roof causing Lucius and Draco to jump, but Narcissa looked satisfied. Nodding and tension eased from her shoulders,

"What would happen if someone else unknowingly took that oath?" Lucius asked, his voice soft and I paused,

"This swear can be made between any group of people," I said slowly, "Although, if the user does not know the implications, it does not take effect," I knew that this was a bold-faced lie, but if this conversation does get back to Voldyworts I wouldn't want him using it on a bunch of unwilling, unknowing victims, "That also covers if the person believes in it or not."

"So, it's old magic," Draco piped up and I nodded smiled,

"Sure is, Draco, but be careful messing with old magic, it doesn't like people taking advantage of it and will often backfire on the user,"

Lucius and Narcissa exchanged a look, I could practically read the question going between them 'if you didn't learn magic how do you know old magic' well I don't but after consulting Hazel this summer, I learned a lot more about the Greek and Roman sides of magic.

Lucius insisted, once more, on covering the bill, which frankly, I had no problems with. It would be a long year, but I would protect those kids to the best of my ability.

OMG OMG OMG Things are moving along nicely!

Once this fic hits Hogwarts it's going to start to accelerate!

Until next time!
