"hey T?"
Emily called out into the dark room, not sure if Tom was still awake or not, he was facing away from the bed where she lay deep in thought.
"yeah?"
"can we talk about earlier?"
she heard Tom sigh and the bedding shuffle as he turned to face her.
"i don't regret hitting him. i'm sorry if it upset you, but he deserved nothing less."
"i'm not mad." Emily shrugged "or upset. you're right, he deserved it."
"...you knew?"
"i did." she sighed pulling the duvet up to her neck.
"why didn't you leave him then?"
"Danny died, i had no one to lean on when it happened. mum was a mess, obviously dad's not even an option, Haz was away with his family and you..."

"it's okay though, i mean, i was going to break up with him soon, i just didn't know how to. he just gave me an in."
"are you upset about breaking up with him?" Tom asked.
