The next morning came Seren’s turn to be shocked.
Peter had sought her out, and said, “I’m sorry, Your Grace, but I think I will have to resign.
Gently, she chided, “don’t make hasty decisions."
“This has always been my plan since I started working for you. I was meant to work until she either got better or worse, and now she is dead.”
“Is—“ She controlled her mouth. But she concluded that it was fine to be coarse for once. “Is the pay not up to standard?”
“It is, but I would like to be closer to my family. I will serve until the end of the month, as per the contract.”
There were still three weeks left. But the ball was in a week’s time.
“I see.”
He informed her that he would be informing Mr. Johnson of the news next, and took his leave.
Three weeks.
