Chapter 7

Reynold pov

Tanjiro set the box on the floor and then knocked thrice on the door.
Does he think it's gonna open on its own or something?

The door opened and out crawled a little girl who looked 6.
She was wearing oversized clothes. She had really beautiful pink eyes and her hair was blackish-brown with magenta tips. Like Penelope. She was also wearing a green muzzle.
She blinked her eyes sleepily then peeked at us.

For a moment she stared at us and we stared at her.

Then all of a sudden her face turned to that of fear. She started to cry loudly. I tried to go to her to calm her down but her face changed from crying to absolute fear as if she had seen a ghost.
She hugged Tanjiro as he tried to calm her down.
The way she looked at me reminded me of...

"Penelope?"

Tanjiro pov

Oh no....What have I done! How did he even recognize her?! The way she cried?! I made a big mistake. No no it's still okay. I got this.
"Who?" - Tanjiro
"Huh?" - Reynold
"Who's Penelope?" - Tanjiro
"She's our.... sister." - Reynold
This little-
"I see..." - Tanjiro
"Well, this is Nezuko. She is my younger sister." - Tanjiro

Yvonne pov

Nezuko has finally calmed down. Though she is still very wary of us.
She is soo adorable! I wanna pinch her cheeks!
"Hello!" - Yvonne
"Hmm?" - Nezuko
"Why is she wearing a muzzle?" - Derrick
"Ah that's because....." - Tanjiro

A few moments later~

Poor Nezuko... I hope that she gets better.

"But if she has such a problem why didn't you just leave her back where you came from?" - Duke
His smile faltered at that.
"We only have each other. My parents and siblings have passed away." - Tanjiro

All of them? Dead?

"How many siblings did you have?" - Derrick
"Aside from Nezuko I had four younger siblings. Three brothers and one sister."

All of us didn't know how to respond to that.

Derrick pov

This boy is a lot younger than me. He lost his entire family and he's still smiling. On the other hand look at me.
I became resentful after Yvonne was lost.
So much that I even bullied Penelope who had absolutely nothing to do with Yvonne.
I wonder how he lost his family... But I will not ask.
Because I never liked talking about how Yvonne got lost.
I doubt he would like talking about how his family died.

"If you ever need to talk to someone, we're right here." - Derrick

I don't know why I said that but I think it is because he looked like Penelope.
Is this what Father felt when he took in Penelope? Because she looked like Yvonne? I finally understand why he did what he did.

I looked at Nezuko.
Her facial features are just like hers.
I unconsciously smiled at her. I only realized this when I saw her eyes slightly widening.
Not only her but everyone else was staring at me too.

"Ahem-" - Derrick
"Ah! Tanjiro the butler will take you to your room." - Duke
"I'll do it." - Reynold
"Huh?" - Duke
"I'll take him to his room. I also want to know a thing or two about him." - Reynold
"Ok then..." - Duke
"I shall take my leave then! Let's go Nezuko!" - Tanjiro
"Hmm! Hmm!" - Nezuko
Tanjiro picked up his box and held Nezuko's hand. He bowed to us and then followed Reynold out the door.

3rd Person pov

Reynold and Tanjiro, who is now carrying a sleeping Nezuko are walking towards Tanjiro's assigned room. Tanjiro suddenly stops in front of a family portrait. The one that had Penelope in it.
"She grew up so fast..." - Tanjiro muttered
"What......?" - Reynold
"Huh?" - Tanjiro
"Do you know her?! Do you know where she is?!" - Reynold
"No! I don't! I was talking about Nezuko not Penelope! Looking at her reminded me how tiny Nezuko used to be." - Tanjiro
This was not a lie. At least not entirely.

"Oh...Sorry. It's just that when we lost Yvonne, I wanted to see Yvonne not Penelope. But Father instead of bringing Yvonne, brought Penelope. Back then I was so angry that I felt the need to blame someone. And Penelope happened to be that someone. Now, I just want to apologize but we can't find her, it's as if she just vanished into thin air. I just hope that wherever she is, she is safe." - Reynold
"No matter how angry you are taking it out on someone innocent is wrong. You shouldn't have framed Penelope. Why would she even want to steal Yvonne's necklace?" - Tanjiro
"How did you know that I framed her for stealing Yvonne's necklace?" - Reynold
".....I heard some rumors." - Tanjiro
"Don't lie! Not even my family knows about this! Who told you this?!" - Reynold
Reynold slammed Tanjiro to the wall and pinned him.
"When the time is right I will tell you everything. Just not now. Please." - Tanjiro

Reluctantly, Reynold decided to listen to him.

"What kind of sword is that?" - Reynold
"It's called a katana. It is Japanese." - Tanjiro
" I see..." - Reynold
"Maybe tomorrow I could show you?" - Tanjiro
"Sure." - Reynold.

Tanjiro's room happened to be close to the garden with a huge balcony.
Reynold and Tanjiro entered the room but just then...

* Sniff * * sniff *
" The smell of blood!" - Tanjiro
