46: Surprise!

"So, they'll be announcing the next number one hero soon." Toshinori said, taking a deep breath as he walked along the trail. Sanyu nodded in acknowledgement, keeping pace with the taller man's stride with Bunny jogging at his side.

"I wonder how Endeavor will handle this." The man thought aloud, "It could be disastrous. Not everyone is built for that type of pressure. Especially not Todoroki Enji. But I have a feeling that he'll rise to the occasion.".

"And if he doesn't?" Sanyu, an avid pessimist, asked. "What you've spent so long building could be destroyed.".

"Just like Rome was not built in a day, peace can not be destroyed in a day. Neither can the human spirit." Toshinori replied. "Besides, Hawks will be the number two hero, he'll have his back.".

"He should be the number one. He's perfect for the job." Sanyu said. Toshinori wheezed out a laugh before fixing his eyes on the sunset that stretched over U.A's campus casting a warm orange glow over his face.

"You're biased. And your uncle's good attitude would be well suited to the position, but Endeavor has been in the game much longer.".

"I was only a hero for three years." The boy shot back, "If I could do it in that time Keigo could do it.".

"You'd think at this point you'd understand that not everyone is like you." Toshinori joked. "But I think Endeavor will be his own kind of symbol of peace. You and I are very different, so obviously there's more than one way to go about it.".

"I was never the symbol of peace." Sanyu said simply. "All For One was right when he said I was the symbol of war. I was a weapon. Something for the countries that signed the 'superhuman treaty' to lord over those that didn't.".

Toshinori gave him a sad smile. "I think you'll find that wasn't true." He responded, "Should we head back now?". Sanyu nodded and the pair turned around, heading back to the 1-A dorms. Honestly the teen was surprised All Might had lasted this long on their walk. He was still recovering from the battle with All For One and his previous injuries being exacerbated. Still he supposed Toshinori was as fit as possible given the circumstances. He was still the former number one.

They reached the 1-A Alliance pretty quickly. Sanyu stopped right in front of the door and opened it, expecting to see just a few people strewn around the common room as per usual.

"SURPRISE!".

Sanyu stumbled back in shock. The entire class had jumped out from behind the couches. Confetti poppers went off and soon Sanyu was coated in gold and red bits of paper.

"Happy birthday Sanyu!" Keigo said, popping out from behind a cabinet, the only hiding space big enough to hide his wings. Tao followed swiftly after. Keigo walked up and pulled Sanyu into a big hug. "Sweet 16!" He said with a smile.

Tao hugged him too and pulled something over his shoulders. It was the cheesy Captain America hoodie he had been given by Jackson for his 15th birthday.

He was confused until he saw that everyone else was dressed up in some sort of costume. A combined Halloween and birthday party. He supposed the hoodie was supposed to be his costume.

Sanyu loved it.

"What-when-why?" He couldn't even finish his sentences he was so in shock.

"We've been planning this for a little while." Tao revealed, "We just had to get All Might to distract you long enough to set this all up! Hurry up, we've got cake and Halloween candy! It's like being in Queens all over again.".

Sanyu knew exactly what the man was referring to. The last time Sanyu had genuinely celebrated his birthday he was 12 years old. Jackson had taken him, Tao, Lela and Clementine to Queens so Sanyu could go trick or treating. Japan didn't celebrate it, so that was a great experience.
