"It's been a whole month and I'm still shocked I'm wearing these tights. You know when The Bossman told me all about this I thought he meant cargo pants but now thinking about it even those would be extremely ugly too. And this awful white, red, and blue thing we have going... it's so...bright."
"Well, Miss. Y/N" Alicia started. Alicia has become my only friend during this whole charade she is also the resident wardrobe, hair, and makeup lady. "you are known as Miss America. It would be an awful thing to not wear the American colors, and trust me the tights are probably the best thing any woman in this day and age will get. They either don't want the women on stage or want them so dressed up you'll want to marry them."
"Isn't that the truth." One of the other ladies in the changing room said.
"Fine. But I'm not putting on makeup today. I bet Steve doesn't have to wear any."
"Look here, Miss. America, you are taking these people away from the terribleness of war for just two seconds. Those little girls will look up to you. So I'm not letting you go out there looking like a mess."
"I can not look a mess without makeup just as easily with it."
"But still, those little girls will see someone dressed up and still be a hero, it just shows it doesn't matter wheater you be a man, tomboy, or be the girliest female out there, you can still be a hero."
"What hero am I from here? I could be doing so much more."
"Then why aren't you? Weren't you the only woman in your troop? Seems like you have a lot of potential to be just sitting here in my makeup chair."
"I made a promise to Steve you know that."
"See that's where your first problem is. I learned a long time ago never to compromise my success for a guy when all he can do is snap his fingers and everyone loves him."
"This is different Alicia. It's more than just him. I have these bad people after me ever since I decided not to follow them anymore and I feel like if I go and fight in this war it'll only dig me into a deeper hole."
"See Miss. Y/N I haven't known you for very long but I believe that no matter what you do, your bad friends will still be bad people. Can you feel good inside knowing you did all of this to get away from the bad people but you won't do all you can to make sure the decision isn't in vain?"
"But I can't leave Steve...I made it this far I might as well finish it."
Alicia sighed. "This far? Love, there are months on months left to this tour! Imagine how many more lives will be lost if you're here playing musical with Captain America? See if I was you, based on what I've heard...I would do the right thing no matter if it hurt someone's feelings because if you are capable you should and if Steve cared about you, he would understand what you have to do."
"You know, for someone who has to inhale perfume and hair spray all day you sure are good at this. No disrespect."
"It's okay I get it. I would be surprised too but darling you have to remember it's my job to stay here all day and listen to problems. I got a dozen girls come and sit in my chair and complain every day. I've gotten good at it."
"I can tell."
"I do hun, hope I made your decision easier," Alicia says and I can tell she's putting the last pins in my hair up.
"I think you did...just how to tell him..you know?"
"Just be honest. Honesty is the best policy." I laughed.
"I didn't go to grade school but that sure does sound like something they would say to us." Alicia laughed.
"Sure did. Heard that every day, but it seriously does work. All done." She says and turns me around to face the mirror. "Wow. Aren't you a beauty?" I laughed and blushed.
