Chapter Six

Ring

GIYU'S POV

"What the fuck are you wearing?!" Sanemi asked me as he pointed at my hand.

I tucked my right hand and placed it inside my pocket.

The nosy guy is here again. I turned away from him and went to my seat. I just arrived at the faculty room after having my class.

"Oi! Oi! Don't ignore me, airhead!" He said tailing behind me. I just sighed and closed my eyes.

"What do you want, Shinazugawa?" I asked him.

"Oi, Tomioka! Why do you have a ring?" He asked. I looked around and saw no one but Obanai at the corner with headphones on. I sighed.

"Can you be quiet?" I asked. He just ignored me and eyed me. "And stop being so nosy."

"It's just a weird phenomenon! You have a freaking ring! Since when did you start fancying jewelries?"

"I'm engaged." I blurted out, to put a stop to his blabbering. His mouth dropped open, and he seemed completely taken aback.

"You are what?" He asked shouting, his voice echoed throughout the almost empty faculty room.

"Shut up, Shinazugawa." Obanai said while removing his headphones.

"You are engaged?!" Shinazugawa shouted. My eyes widened and I looked at Obanai and he also looked so confused.

"You are hopeless." I murmured.

"What the fuck?!" Shinazugawa shouted again. This guy is really irritating.

"Just shut up, please." I said while massaging my head.

He was pestering me all morning until I was called in for my next subject, at which point he stopped bugging me. When I got at the room, it was really noisy. As though the pupils were having a fight.

"Shut up, Murata!" Mari, the star student was standing beside her seat while pointing at Murata who is fuming so mad.

I walked towards the teacher's table and placed my stuffs there. The students didn't even recognize my presence.

"You are being mean now, Mari!"

"Guys," I said, trying to get their attention. But no one even looked at my way. They were pumped up with the heated tension between the two smartest kids in class.

"You stated that you disagreed with my ideas, yet you were unable to provide an acceptable justification for your viewpoints. Are you dumb?!" Mari asked Murata who is being held back by the quiet kid, Zak.

"Mari, please calm down." Zak said while holding Murata's arm.

"You just can't accept that someone disagrees on you, Mari!" Murata said. "You have a big ego and pride."

"I'll accept it if you can provide me a back up reason. But you didn't!" She said.

"Okay, guys, I am here." I said trying to raise my voice but in a calm way. I have no idea how to deal with tensions like this.

Should I call Shinazugawa?

Nope. Nope. He would just join in.

I just stood there looking at them fighting. I pressed my lips as I slammed my palm on the white board three times.

They finally looked at me.

"Good morning." I said in a stern voice

"Good morning, professor." They all said in unison as they tried to rush back to their seats and calm down.

Murata is still fuming red while Mari is fixing her hair. Everyone pretended that nothing just happened. I'm still in deep shock but I tried to place a calm demeanor outside.

"Your behavior earlier is intolerable." I started as I eyed Mari and Murata. The two of them looked guilty. "I will be notifying your adviser about what happened. I hope you don't mind."

They all fell silent, as I resumed my discussion. The day ended smoothly after that.

I returned to the faculty room to calculate my students' grades when Shinazugawa blocked my way. I pressed my eyes closed and muttered a silent prayer.

What is it this time?

I just looked at him.

"Are you not lying earlier?" He asked.

I just nodded at him.

"Wow, how did you get a girlfriend first?" He asked, still not convinced.

"She is not my girlfriend." I said.

"Oh right, she is your fiancée." He said.

"No, you don't get it."

"Yeah, mister not like all of us." He said, mocking me again. I just ignored him

Shinazugawa Sanemi and Obanai Iguro are the only two people who talks to me the most. Shinazugawa to piss me off, and Obanai talks to me because he is close to Shinazugawa.

I don't really need much of their company but they are there, so I have to bear it.

I walked pass him and went straight to my seat. Good thing he was approached by one of his students.

I sat at my seat and eyed at the ring at my hand.

I'm not really obliged to wear this, but there is a feeling deep in me that wants to. And I have no idea why.

Perhaps it's because I enjoy the contrast of the cold silver ring on my warm skin.

Nevertheless, it doesn't really matter. I'm just tied up to my parent's decision, because I want my sister to let her freely choose who she wants to be married to.

"So you are saying that your parents arranged your marriage to some nursing girl or whatever?" Sanemi asked while munching on his rice bowl. Obanai and Shinazugawa dragged me to eat with them at a nearby restaurant. I just nodded as a reply to what he just said.

"Well, that's sad." Obanai simply said sarcastically.

Shinazugawa burst out laughing, which drew a few curious glances around the room. I consciously took a look around.

"Are you fond of nurses, Iguro?" Shinzugawa asked him.

"Nope." He said.

"Same." Shinazugawa agreed with him.

The fact that they are annoying me to no end practically every day makes me wish that they would one day take back what they just said.

I just resumed eating my soup.

I truly don't enjoy spending time with these two people.

"You are hopeless."

"I know." I said as a matter of fact.

I gazed at the ring wrapped around my middle finger.

I wish this set up will not screw my life over.
