Chapter Twenty Four
Sweet Nothings
Things went well between Giyu and me after that. The house helpers were quite surprised and confused when they saw me, but I eventually returned home. Giyu insisted we sleep in the master bedroom together. I was hesitant at first, considering what had almost happened between us, but he was adamant, especially since I was sick.
He was the perfect fiancé, I would say. He took care of everything, cooked my meals, gave me massages, made sure I took my medicine on time, everything. I even missed two days of university, but honestly, I didn't mind.
"You're awake," one time he said as he opened the door to the room. "I made you some soup."
He placed the tray gently on my lap, careful not to spill a drop. I looked down at the simple but comforting meal, the aroma of the broth soothing in itself. The sight of it made me realize how empty my stomach was.
"Thank you," I murmured, picking up the spoon.
As I took a sip, I could feel his eyes on me, watching closely to make sure I ate. The warmth of the soup spread through me, not just physically but emotionally too. It was such a simple act, but I could feel the care behind it. God, I love this man.
"You didn't have to do all this, you know," I said between spoonfuls, though I couldn't hide the smile creeping onto my face.
"I did," he replied quietly, sitting on the edge of the bed. "You're still not fully recovered. I want to make sure you get better." His voice was calm but firm.
I chuckled softly. "You're being a little too good at this, you know. I might get used to it."
"Good," he said. "Then I'll just have to keep doing it."
Later that afternoon, when I felt tired and wearyg again, I found myself lying on the couch, my body heavy with fatigue. Giyu was sitting next to me, his fingers working gentle circles into my shoulders.
"You don't have to do this," I muttered. I didn't have the energy to protest much. His hands were firm yet soothing, working out the knots of tension that had settled in from days of being sick and cooped up.
"I want to," he said simply, continuing his massage. "It's the least I can do."
I closed my eyes, letting out a small sigh as the tension melted away under his touch. He didn't speak much, but his actions always spoke volumes. The way he'd glance at me every few minutes, the way he'd adjust the blanket over me when he thought I wasn't paying attention, and the way he sat there, making sure I was comfortable—he showed his love in all the quiet moments.
By evening, I was feeling better, though still tired.Giyu had already prepared dinner by the time I got up, a simple dish of rice, vegetables, and grilled fish. I watched from the table as he moved around the kitchen.
"You know," I teased, leaning my chin on my hand as I watched him, "youd make a pretty good nurse."
He glanced over his shoulder, raising an eyebrow. "I'll leave that to you," he replied with a small smile. "But I can manage this much."
I laughed softly, feeling a warmth spread through me that had nothing to do with the food or the fever. "You're really something, Giyu."
He set the plates down infront of us, then he sat across from me, "So are you," he said quietly.
By the time I was feeling better, it was already time for me to leave for my clinicals. I honestly didn't want to go, I wanted to spend more time with him. And to make it worse, Giyu was a bit clingy the night before I had to leave.
"Can I come with you?" he whispered in my ear. We were cuddling in the master bedroom, the air cold from the air conditioning, but we felt warm wrapped in each other's arms.
"Silly," I chuckled, "I'll be at the hospital most of the time." He sighed and buried his face in the crook of my neck, tightening his arms around my waist. I leaned back into him, his chest pressed against my back.
"We can just call," I reminded him.
"It's not the same as having you here," he murmured.
"It's only a few weeks," I reassured him.
He didn't respond, and I smiled to myself. "Well, after my clinicals, we'll get a month long break before finals. Maybe we could take a trip?"
"Hmmm..."
"I'm thinking Europe, if you can get time off from the university," I suggested, hoping his supervisor would approve some vacation time.
"That sounds nice," he said quietly.
"So, don't miss me too much. We'll see each other more than ever after this."
Giyu hummed softly against my neck, his breath warm on my skin. "I'll still miss you, though," he whispered, his voice vibrating against me. "Every second feels longer when you're not around."
I chuckled softly at his words, not expecting that from him. I turned in his arms to face him, meeting his deep blue eyes that were watching me with an intensity that always caught me off guard, filled with a softness that made my heart flutter. "You're such a sap, Giyu," I teased.
"For you, always," he replied with a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He gently brushed a stray strand of hair from my face, tucking it behind my ear, his fingers lingering on my cheek. "You make it easy."
I felt my cheeks warm as I playfully poked his chest. "You say that, but you're the one being all clingy tonight"
His expression softened even more as he leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead. "I just don't want to let you go," he whispered, his lips barely grazing my skin. "I like having you here, with me."
"I like being here too," I admitted, my voice soft, almost a whisper. I rested my head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. There was something so soothing about it, something only he could provide. "But you know Ill come back."
"I know," he said quietly, his hand gently tracing slow circles on my back.
We lay there for a while in comfortable silence, our limbs tangled together, the quiet hum of the air conditioning the only sound in the room. I could feel the rise and fall of his chest, his steady breathing, and it made me feel safe... whole.
"You're going to make me late for my clinicals if you keep being this sweet," I murmured, half-teasing. "Let's get some sleep."
"Maybe that's my plan," he said, his voice low and warm. "To keep you all to myself a little longer."
I lifted my head and kissed him softly, feeling the tenderness in the way his lips moved against mine. "I love you, Giyu."
His eyes softened even more, if that was possible, and he pulled me closer, his breath warm against my lips as he whispered, "I love you too, Shinobu. More than anything."
In that moment, I didn't want to leave either. If only time could stop right here, with him.
