Ch. 24 Miss You

I sat upright in bed, hands dragging over my face. I could feel my shirt sticking to my back from the sweat that accumulated overnight. Letting out a ragged breath, as I tried to calm myself and stay quiet. I felt the body next to me stir and I froze. A soft sigh escaping from the small girl that slept next to me. After a few minutes of silence and certainty that Mafuyu wasn't going to wake up, I carefully climbed out of the bed and unplugged my phone from the charger. I haven't been able to visit Mafuyu and Himeko since the start of my second year, so when they found out I was staying at home for winter break, they insisted on a slumber party.
I tiptoed my way towards the door, gently sliding it closed behind me. I let out the breath that I had been unknowingly holding when I heard no disturbance. I flipped open the phone. 2:57 am. I let out a low groan as I snapped it shut. I licked my lips, suddenly aware of how dry my mouth was. I carefully made my way towards the kitchen of the estate.
I gulped the water down with fever, and did so with a second glass soon after. My phone lay on the counter next to the sink. I kept looking at it, trying to come to the decision on whether I should send him a text or not.
"Fuck it, worse that would happen is that he's asleep," I tried to reason with myself. I grabbed the phone and opened the messaging app. The dumb nickname that Satoru set for himself at the top of the message list, as it always is. My finger hesitated from pressing the key to open the chat, biting my lip as I wrestled with the uncertainty. What if he is asleep and I'm just bothering him? Rest was rare for all of us sorcerers, but him especially. "Maybe I'll just send him something nice to wake up to."

I'm sorry for texting so late at night, just wanted to leave something nice for you to see when you wake up I guess? I don't know, I've just missed you lately. I hope you sleep well <3

I hit send, immediately closed and pushed the phone away as I felt my body shake in embarrassment and anxiety. God why did I put the heart? 'I miss you'? Is that the best I can do? Ugh, I'm such an idiot. I shook my head and got up, getting a third cup of water and chugging it. But then I heard the familiar tone that signified an incoming message. I looked over to see that it was indeed from Satoru. I sputtered as I scrambled to read the message.
