(18) serenity and peace

It's been weeks since I stayed in the province for holiday. To be honest, I missed home. Iba pa rin yung serenity kapag nasa province ka. Mas tahimik compared sa city. Though I missed the bustling sound from the busy streets of the city.

I'm currently having dinner with my family. My relative will be here any minute new year comes.

"Aiya, it's almost new year. Have you called Sicheng?" tanong ni mom sakin.

"Yeah, bakit hindi mo siya tinawagan?" tanong din ni dad.

"Dad, mom... we respect each other's time. We both agreed na no communications muna this time kasi we need quality time with our family for the holidays." paliwanag ko. Sicheng and I already agreed about this.

Napatango naman sila sa sinabi ko. "Oh, kaya pala hindi ko kayo naririnig na nag-uusap through calls." mom says.

"All I thought, the two of you would be that typical gen-z couple who can't live without communicating in a long distance relationship." natawang sabi ni dad.

"Well we are dad... but when it comes to this, we need time for our own." I smiled.

"That's good. That's a secret to a healthy relationship." dad gave me a thumbs up.

Napangiti na lang ako dahil sa sinabi ni dad. I was so nervous for Sicheng because all I thought, dad would disagree with us, but no he didn't. Sicheng is so brave to prove dad his worth. He's so sincere and willing to do everything. Kaya nagustuhan siya ni dad agad. The last time we had dinner before we left, gusto sana isama ni dad si Sicheng sa amin. He even invited Sicheng to pay us a visit but Sicheng declines it, saying he can for some other time.

Nonetheless I'm so happy. Both sides approved us for each other. But I was wondering if our parents would get along if ever they'll meet.

I waited for new year to come, my relatives were also here. They arrived at 11PM since malapit lang naman din sila dito. Now we're celebrating new year together as we watch the fireworks. I smiled to myself.

I excused myself to go inside for a while since naiingayan na ako sa tunog ng fireworks mula sa labas. Sakto naman na pagpasok ko sa living room, Sicheng is calling.

[Hi Aiya. Happy New Year!] bungad niya.

"Happy New Year Sicheng!" I giggled.

[Sorry babe, ngayon lang ako napatawag. We were busy and all you know?] he says.

"It's okay babe, you have to spend more time with your family. It's more important. Ako din naman." I assured him.

[Thank you for understanding... Anyway, how was your new year?]

"It's great! I really missed my parents you know that. Mabuti na nga lang nakahabol pa ako sa Christmas promo pauwi, so I can spend time with my parents... kahit na saglit lang."

[It's good and I'm so happy for you. I know how much you missed them babe. After all you spend a lot of months in the city. You're so away from your family kaya alam ko na homesick na din.]

"You're right. Na homesick talaga ako, nakakapanibago but... you helped me get through it."

[Aww I'm so touched.] Sicheng says sweetly. [Well anyway, namiss na kita.]
