lorelei sat on her bed, her 4-day-old cast resting on a pillow. lia had spent the last 4 days recovering after very intensive surgery, a broken leg, and being on her period. the school was confused, as to why she needed to miss almost an entire week.
so now, she was mentally preparing herself to get up and ready and go to school.
she knew how to use the crutches very well, and she didn't break the ankle that she needs to drive, so what could be the problem? Lorelei doesn't know how to ask for help.
she hobbled over to her closet and picked out a new outfit, which was simple but also leg cast compatible. just thank god her cast ends below her knee, if it hadn't she would be out of ideas because it is winter.

it was simple, but that's what she loved most about it. the jeans went over her leg perfectly and she felt comfy and cute at the same time.
the entire day at school, summer struggled to balance carrying a backpack full of books and having a broken leg. though she got many dirty looks, she learned not to let them bother her as she went on with her day like normal, occasionally letting matt carry her backpack for her because he wouldn't let her say no.
also throughout the day, matt had his eyes pinned on lia. maybe it was because he was part of the reason she was in the condition she was in, but also for another reason he could not identify. it puzzled him greatly, but every time he walked past her he got all nervous.
he got nervous a lot around her actually. at first, he thought it was because he is always nervous because his anxiety makes him. but then as it kept happening more and more he realized it was a different nervousness. he realized that every time their arms brushed past each others in the hall his stomach twisted in knots. that every time she laughed at his joke he blushed. that every time she looked at him he stared back a bit too hard.
he had noticed this behavior over the past few weeks but noticed it got much harder and more intense at the sleepover. he couldn't help but look at her constantly, and it bothered him because he knew she was off-limits.
for several reasons. 1. she was his best friend. not just his, but his brothers as well. 2. Jacob would beat his ass. 3. she just got out of a very abusive and dangerous relationship. she didn't need another boy.
so he swallowed the truth. he swallowed it hard. no matter how much it hurt to forget about it, he pushed his feelings wayyy down and pretended they never existed before returning to be lias best friend.
maybe it was for the best. this way he could still be around her without ruining anything. this way no one would hate him for destroying their perfect friendship.

lia was checking her Instagram DMS, something she did every 3 months in order to clean out her phone storage and see how people felt about her. this time there were a lot of thirst men and people hating on her. she figured the people hating were from Joshua's side.
