Ch 18 In court

The court scene mentioned here is purely imagination. Don't take this as a reference. *The punishments are authors personal choices!

They broke their hug and Abi gave a forehead kiss before moving to balcony and settling on couch there. They sat there side hugging each other with Saki's head resting on Abi's chest. She was listening to the music that is so calming for her, his heart beats.
They were in comfortable silence until Rani's phone call and disturbed it. They broke the hug, sat next to eachother and Saki attended the call in speaker mode.

S: sollunga ma. Epdi irukkeenga rendu perum?
R: Nalla irukkom Saki? Nee epdi irukka?
S: Nalla irukkaen ma.
R: Naalaikku unna ponnu paaka oru paiyan anga varuvaan. Unnoda thurathu atha paiyan. Naanga pesittom. Un number kuduthrukkom. Naalikku nee paathu ok sollu.
Abi was shocked and turned to see Saki's face. It reflected the same along with some irritation. He stood up to go away form there. Saki held his hands and pulled him to sit. He understood that she was not interested in the marriage and sat there. She continued talking
S: Enna ma solreenga? Yaaru andha paiyan? Yen enkitta kekkaama en details kudutheenga?
R: naalikku poi pesu. Naanga ok sollittom. Neenga meet panna podhum.
Saki's irritation reached its peak. She was already going through so much and here her mother is not even letting her to talk about her opinion and they have already accepted the alliance. After the incident by Vivaan she was barely ready to face any stranger. Her mother kept on talking about the marriage and that's it Saki cut the call.
She saw Abi. He opened his hands. Saki placed herself in his embrace. Words need not be wasted to understand eachother's mind and heart.
After 5 mins of silence,
A: Do you want to meet him?
S: just to say no to him. But I am not ready to meet him tomorrow.
A: it's ok. let's take our own time. Will plan the meet for some other day.
S: hmm.

With that the day ended for a fresh morning.

Morning they started to the court.
Sarath was driving having Pugazh beside him. Abi and Saki were at the back seat. Saki was cracking her knuckles restlessly. Abi noticed it and held her hands giving slight pressure. Just the feel having him around her calmed her. She rested her head in his chest while he protectively wrapped his hands around her. All this was noticed by Pugazh and Sarath through the rear view mirror. They were happy.

About Saudi Arabian court:
The legal system is based on the Islamic code of Sharia,  with its judges and lawyers forming part of the country's religious leadership or ulama. There are also non-Sharia government tribunals which handle disputes relating to specific royal decrees. All courts and tribunals follow Sharia rules of evidence and procedure.

The judicial establishment, in the broadest sense, is composed of qadis, who give binding judgements in specific court cases, and muftis and other members of the ulama, who issue generalized but highly influential legal opinions also known as fatwas.
The Grand Mufti is the most senior member of the judicial establishment as well as being the highest religious authority in the country; his opinions are highly influential among the Saudi judiciary. 28-30  The judiciary proper (that is, the body of qadis) is composed of about 700 judges.
The training received from such Sharia law degrees is entirely religious in character and is based on the Qu'ran and centuries old religious treatises with no reference to, for example, modern commercial issues. Although most judges have been educated and appointed under the current system, some of the older judges received the traditional qadi's training of years of instruction by a religious mentor in a mosque.

Soon they reached the court and the proceedings began with the police making Vivaan appear in front of the Qadi (judge). The organiser had already submitted the drug medicine found in Vivaan's pocket. Now Saki was called in front of the judge.

Judge: Are you Ms.Saki?
Saki: Yes sire.
Judge: Are all the allegations on him true?
Saki: Yes sire.
Judge: how do you want him to be punished?
In Saudi the girl's(victim) choice is considered in giving punishment.
Saki: I respect on your decision to ask me sire, but I am no way interested in deciding his punishment sire. I respect your choice of punishment.
J: As you wish Ms.Saki.
Pugazh from viewers seat: sorry to interrupt your justice but we have a request to make sire.
Saki was confused at their sudden statement.
J: come forward.
Pugazh and Sarath came forward.
P: as her brothers we have a request to make on his punishment.
J: Are they your brothers Ms.Saki?
S: Yes sire, non blooded relation.
J: ok go ahead with your request.
P: we want him to be punished by whipping 40 times
Saki was shocked at their request but Pugazh eyed her to be quite and she did.
J: ok. Any other?
Sarath: no sire. Thanks for hearing to our request.
J: ok. Time for judgement. The criminal shall be punished with a banishment from this country for 10 years on usage of drugs and 50 lashes for misbehaving with a girl.
Vivaan's face went pale on hearing the punishment.
J: This shall be processed within a week's time. Court adjourned!

Everyone came out of the court. Saki hugged Pugazh and Sarath.
P& Sarath: nee enga thangachi da. We know what a good soul you are and you have always taken care of us.
It was Saki who took care of them when they were unwell. She treated them as her own brothers.
Saki: Thanks neyy

Saki intervened her fingers with Abi's and held his hands tightly and whispered a thanks to which he blinked his eyes in assurance and whispered back congrats on her victory.
They then left to their rooms to take rest.
