Y/N's POV

"Whas got Racer so happy?" is what I heard as I woke up. I opened my eyes to see Race being teased by Finch and Romeo about something.

"Me thinks it's 'bout a goil," Romeo stated with a large grin.
"You thinks right den," I responded from where I was situated once I got a grasp on the situation.

At the sound of my voice they turned to face me and smirks got wider than I'd ever seen them.

"Ooooh, so ya finally got a date wit' N/N an' das why you's lookin' all lovesick," Finch said, thinking he'd figured it out.

"Wait no, das not what she meant!" Race exclaimed over their laughter.
"Yeah, not what I meant. Race got a girlfriend. I's tha one who introduced 'em," I corrected them loudly.

"Race committin' ta someone? Since when?" Romeo asked incredulously.
I had to laugh at that.

"Guess it was da second he saw her, ya should've seen it. Love at first sight or somethin' like dat," I responded, still laughing.

The day went on from there. I bought some papers and sold them around town. Did a little bit of busking too.

Eventually the evening had settled, my bag once filled with papers had pennies instead and the crowd had dispersed.

"Very nice voice you got," I heard a familiar voice say, giving me a fright. I turned to see Oscar there.

"Thanks, makes me some extra cash now dat I don't got a broken arm ta make people feel sorry for me," I joked.

"Wanna come by to Katie's? Morris is there," he teasingly incentivised.
"Yeah sure," I replied rolling my eyes.

When we got there, I found that Katie and Race were there. Morris not so much. Before I could get a word in, three pairs of hands started dragging me somewhere.

"Where are yous takin' me?" I tried to ask. Must've been talking to the walls because no one replied.

I tried to escape their grip but Oscar just picked me up and started carrying me wherever they were taking me. I sighed, guess I'd just have to watch what happens.

Eventually they put me in a closet and closed the door. I scrambled trying to open it but I heard the sound of keys locking it from the outside.

I banged on the door "Hey, whas all dis 'bout?"
"This door isn't opening until you two just confess," was all I got from Katie before I heard them all snickering and walking away, a couple of high fives being exchanged .

Now I was confused. What was I supposed confess and to who?

"Heya N/N," I jumped at the sound of Morris' voice, "yeah they trapped us in here until we 'confess our love for each other' or something," he laughed.

"Yeah, guess we'll be stuck here forever," I joked, masking the hurt of his laughter's confirmation that my feelings would never be returned.

"Yeah guess so," he said, lightly chuckling.

We sat down on the floor

"How've you been coping tryna sell those bum headlines?" He asked striking up a conversation.
"No good, hey. Wish I could get ta Pulitzer an' talk some sense into 'im."

"I bet you could write a better headline than Pulitzer," he said, chuckling.
"You's right on dat. Haven't eaten much since Thursday on account 'f 'is poor headlines."

"Maybe I should take you out then," he said with a nonchalance that took me off guard.
"What?" I asked, snapping to face him.

He instantly grew more flustered, "I- uh- I mean- um- like to get something to eat. Y'know- uh- because you haven't been eating much."

"Yeah, 'f course, sustenance, very 'mportant."
"Very very important," he agreed, seemingly unaware of what exactly he was even saying.

We both awkwardly laughed, clearly feeling tension in the air. Our eye contact then became prolonged as neither of us had the ability to tear ourselves away from each other's burning gaze. I could hardly breathe under his stare.

The silence permeated the atmosphere so thickly that I could practically feel the sound waves from Morris' heartbeat.

Suddenly, my mouth started moving faster that my brain could catch up. "Morris I really-" The door burst open, interrupting my moment of impulsivity.

It was Race.

"So, 'd tha two 'f ya finally admit yer love for each other?" he asked. Impeccable timing am I right.

I slapped a big smile on my face, "Nope, no love here, just a bunch 'f friends. Right, Mo?"

"What were you about to say N/N?" Morris asked and I momentarily felt all the air sucked from my lungs.

"Oh," I let out a breathy laugh as I felt the sudden desire for the ground to swallow me whole, "funnily enough I was gonna say dat I wonder 'f they're lettin' us out anytime soon an' then, there Racer was. Funny right?"

Probably not the most believable lie I've ever told but I said it, no taking it back.

"Yeah hilarious," he replied, somewhat unconvincingly.

There was what felt like an eternity of silence, in which Morris was seemingly staring into my soul, before Race spoke again.

"Looks like 'ts gettin' dark, I think we oughtta go, see you 'round, Morris."

He went over to the other room to say goodbye to Oscar and Katie, leaving Morris and I alone.

"You confuse me, N/N," he stated plainly.
"That makes two 'f us, Mo. See ya 'round," and with that I left the room.

On the way out after saying goodbye to Katie and Oscar, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Morris.

"You can't just leave without giving me a hug," he explained with a smile on his face.

I laughed, exasperated, before pulling him into a tight hug. He pressed a kiss against the top of my head before whispering in my ear.

"It doesn't have to be complicated, Y/N. We're in control of that."

I pulled away from the hug and looked at him confused.

"See ya, N/N," he simply said, not explaining what he just said.
"See ya," I replied, seeing that I wouldn't be getting any explanation any time soon.
