⎯⎯the girl in the woods!
"We should be out there right now. We should be helping look for him," Mike complained at the dinner table — he didn't bother eating the food in front of him. How could he when his soulmate was out there, all alone and missing?
Karen heaved a sigh. "We've been over this, Mike. The chief says—"
"I don't care what the chief said!" Mike interrupted.
"Michael!" Karen snapped.
"We have to do something," Mike plowed on. "Will can be in danger!" The thought made him sick. His soulmate was probably in danger.
"More reason to stay put," Karen said.
"Mom!" Mike exclaimed.
"End of discussion," Karen said firmly.
Mike glanced away angrily.
Nancy picked at her food. "So...me and Barbara are gonna study at her house tonight. That's cool, right?"
"No, not cool," Karen replied, looking put off.
Nancy reeled back as if slapped. "What? Why not?"
"Why do you think? Am I speaking Chinese in this house? Until we know Will is okay, no one leaves."
"This is such bullshit!" Nancy yelled.
"Language," Ted drawled from his spot at the end.
Nancy ignored him. "So we're under house arrest? Just because Mike's soulmate got lost on the way home from—"
"Wait, this is Will's fault?" Mike asked incredulously.
"Nancy, take that back," Karen cut in.
"No," Nancy scoffed.
"You're just pissed off 'cause you wanna hang out with Steve," Mike spat out.
Nancy glared at her brother.
"Steve?" Ted asked.
"Steve as in one of your soulmates, Steve?" Karen sputtered.
"Yes!" Mike answered.
"You're such a douchebag, Mike!" Nancy yelled.
"Language!" Ted bellowed again.
Nancy let out a huff and shoved away from the table, stomping away as Mike snickered at her back.
"Nancy, come back!" Karen called out. "Come back!" Holly sniffled. "It's okay. It's okay, Holly. Here, have some juice, okay?"
Ted glanced up from his plate. "You see what happens, Michael?"
"What happens when what?" Mike shouted. "I'm the only one acting normal here! I'm the only one who cares about Will!"
"That is really unfair, son," said Ted. "We care." He chewed on his chicken as Mike's face screwed up in rage.
