The House of Beowulf is one of the oldest known British wizarding families.
The origins of the family predate its name. While there is little to no documented history, it is believed the family can stretch its origins to pre-Roman Britain as decedents of a powerful Druid line with connections to the Stonehenge region. Druids were religious leaders, legal authorities, adjudicators, lore keepers, medical professionals, and political advisors.
In the 4th century, the Druid family was combined with a prominent Roman line during the end of the Roman invasion of Britain. The Roman family was descendants of a particularly cunning general with close ties to the emperor. They were often feared for their connection to the gods, whispered to have the ability to harness some of their power. It is from this line that the family has adopted many of its traditions and values.
The name Beowulf, itself, dates back to the Viking era when foreigners came to the British aisles, some to pillage and raid and others intending to bring a new culture and new types of magic with them. The Beowulfs were well-known in their own land as their ancestor was the subject of an epic poem among their people.
The family has continued to add notable names to its ancestry line such as Gryffindor, Merlin, and Dumbledore. It is believed that due to this strong line, it has never produced a nonmagical child despite being less prone to pure-blood ideals.
The family is most notable for its connections to Hogwarts Castle. Björn Beowulf had been a close friend to the four founders and helped to create the castle though, famously, choosing not to make a house for himself, forever establishing themselves as a great but humble family.
