Sam

Seeing Noah walk through that restaurant door made my stomach queasy. The queasiness you feel out of fear. I wasn't fearful of Noah, I was fearful of us being in the same space and eating lunch together.

I chose Ben and I'm happy I did, but clearly after last night I still had feelings for Noah and I tend to act on my impulsive urges. Which isn't fair for neither Ben nor Noah.

Along with the queasiness, I also felt guilt from last night. And guilt from me wanting to do it again. I knew it was selfish, but I wished I could have them both. I needed Ben in my life, but I craved Noah.

"Sam?"

"Huh?" I turned to Kai.

"I asked what you were getting?" My eyebrows drew together in confusion. "For lunch," he clarified. We were in line to order. Kaitlyn ordering while we were behind her and Noah was behind us and I swear I could feel Noah's eyes on me.

"Oh, yeah, um. I don't know, I'm not really hungry," I said, looking up at the menu, disgusted by how many calories each food item had. God, even the kids meal burger had so many calories. Why did Kaitlyn pick this place?

"You didn't eat breakfast," Kai pointed out. Ugh.

"I'm thirsty, I'll get something to drink," I said, hoping he'd drop it. Kai luckily did drop it and ordered his food, but as soon as I stepped up, Noah got in front of me, "Hey," I whined, crossing my arms over my chest in annoyance even though I wasn't planning on getting anything besides a cup for water.

Noah ignored me. "I'm gonna get the bacon cheeseburger, the grilled cheese-"

My arms dropped to my sides, "what are you doing?" I asked in a quiet, but firm voice.

Again, I was ignored. "A side of fries and two strawberry milkshakes."

"Noah," I spoke his name as a warning, but he paid anyway. Finally he stepped aside and sat in the booth with his order number. Kai was in the bathroom and Kaitlyn was gathering napkins from the counter. I sat across Noah. "I didn't ask you to pay for me."

"I know," he said like I was stupid for saying that.

I leaned in and seethed "Then why'd you do that?" I questioned him, giving him an incredulous look.

He leaned in as well, the same sharpness in his tone "Because you weren't going to order anything."

"I wasn't hungry," I claimed stubbornly. "And I sure as hell don't want a milkshake, do you know how many calories are in that?"

I thought Noah was going to fight back, but then his expression softened. "Sam, please at least eat half the sandwich and if you don't finish the milkshake, then fine, I'll drink it, but have some of it."

I shifted uncomfortably, not knowing how to respond because no one's put that much effort into getting me to eat. I sat back in the booth, "I'll try."

"That's all I ask," he said right when Kaitlyn sat down next to Noah.

She was grinning, looking between both of us. "Did I interrupt something?"

Noah rolled his eyes while I said, "no." And Kai sat down next to me.

"Kaitlyn," Kai started and I already knew what he was going to say, "I just have to tell you, you're beautiful."

Kaitlyn gushed, "oh thank you."

"I'd love to do a photo shoot of you."

I snorted, "Jesus, Kai," I shook my head.

"What? I'm building my portfolio," he claimed.
