A newfound friend

The young child would stroll about the village, Playing with their hands nervously as they listen to the early risers talk amongst themselves
Smelling breakfast in the air as they walked by the many houses down the road, Though their ears perk at the voices of children laughing
They peek around a corner to spot a group of children towering over a fallen little girl, There was a book and scattered papers by her side as the others point and laugh

"I can't believe you think all this legend stuff is real!
It's no wonder mom and dad are so fed up with you, You're always chasing after a fantasy!"
The one yelling at them seemed to be the elder sister, Kito saw the little girl crying and felt like they need to do something about it
They look around and see a rack of weird looking masks, Quickly snagging one and of course leaving the money behind as they then go to climb the side of the building

"I don't wanna be a scholar!
I don't wanna!"
The little girl sobbed as she held her book close to her, A figure drops down from above and does a super hero landing between the little girl and the children

The other children were startled and stare before seeing a creepy mask upon the figure's face, The figure raises it's arms like a scary monster and simply says
"Boo!"
The other children scream and run away crying as the little girl stares at the figure's back, She was scared

The figure stands tall and looks over their shoulder at her, Lifting up the mask to reveal big eyes full of kindness
She eases at just seeing a normal face, Though she wondered why they wore a mask underneath

The young simian walks over and offers their paw to help her up, She hesitantly takes it and felt that this kid's hand was weird
She gets pulled up onto her feet with ease which surprised her, Staring into their eyes once again as her face got a bit pink
"W-who are you?"
She asked with some bewilderment in her voice
"My name's Kito!
I don't live around her though I do visit often!
What's your name?"
They asked as they let go of her hand

She hides behind her book a bit as she got shy, Averting her eyes from their gaze
Kito raises in eyebrow in confusion
"D-Daiyu!
Nice to meet you, Kito..."
She greeted before lowering her book to meet their gaze
"I thought that trick you pulled earlier was r-really cool!
Like a real super hero!"
She told as Kito's eyes widen, Their face got a bit red as they scratch the back of their neck

"T-Thanks Daiyu!"
The blue simian was flustered by the sudden compliments, Walking over to pick up the fallen papers from the ground and seeing passable sketches of scary demons
"You drew these?"
They asked as they held out the papers to her, She takes them and tucks the papers into her book
"Y-yeah!
I did, I love reading about old legends and other stories in general!"

She told with a big smile and passion that glitters within her eyes, Though that didn't last long as her expression fades into one of shame
"My family doesn't seem to think so though..."
She stares at her shoes as she tears up a bit, Kito walks over and places a paw on her shoulder

"Well... I'm not your family and I think stories are awesome!
My master, Dad and uncles are always telling me these awesome stories about how they face these trials and fight so many demons!
A fight against the evil forces trying to eat a human that gives you immortality along with these scrolls that hold the secrets of the universe!"
Kito explains as Daiyu's eyes once again fill with adoration and wonder at their newfound and mysterious friend, She smiled and giggles at their enthusiasm
"Seems like your family is great at making up stories!
Are they writers?"

Kito took offense at the question but remembers that they had to lay low, They clear their throat
"Yeah!
Writers!
You wouldn't know them though, They're a pretty small group."
They lied casually before perking up
"Hey, Why don't you tell me about your favorite stories?
Maybe we'll end up finding out we know the same ones!"
The blue simian suggested and the little girl's eyes widen with excitement, She squeals a bit and drags Kito to the village book shop

Kito makes a small squeak noise from suddenly being dragged along, The two arrive and head inside
"Hi Mr. Hong!"
Greeted the little girl, Kito waving at the elder that owned the shop
"Ah, Ms. Daiyu!
A pleasure to see you again, Oh?
Who is that with you?"
The elder asks and Daiyu gives Kito a side hug

"This is my new friend, Kito!
She saved me from some bullies earlier and we both like books!"
She introduced the child excitedly
"H-Hello mister!"
Kito greeted shyly before giving a bow of respect, The elder surprised by the gesture
"What a well behaved young lady, Just like little Ms. Daiyu!"
He pointed out with a big smile, Bowing in return

"Welcome to my shop, Ms. Kito!
I hope my shop is to your liking, Please feel free to look around and come to me if you require any assistance."
He told and Kito laughs nervously
"A-actually, I'm not a-"
Before they can finish their sentence, They were suddenly dragged by Daiyu further down the shop
"Come on, Come on!"
She exclaimed for Kito to hurry up, The elder waving them off with a chuckle

"Ah... Young love..."
The elder told himself but Kito heard it no problem despite being pretty far by now, They were confused
'Is this love..?'
Kito thought in question as they kept getting dragged around, Suddenly stopping and catching their balance
"We're here!
My favorite spot to read!"

The little girl let go of their paw and gestures to a corner with a short table, Cushions, blankets and snacks
Kito stares in awe and she brings them over to sit down, Spending time talking about books and sharing stories they heard
Kito's tail wagging under the cloak
