The residual terror of the Kira situation had eventually faded as July hit mid-stride. It had been several months since you first arrived in Morioh and became entwined with the Joestar thread of fate. Despite everything, you loved them dearly and the thought of living a life without them seemed impossible.
Joseph ended up returning to the US, both forty years younger in appearance and with an infant. He seemed extremely reluctant to go back to his wife in New York, not because he did not want to see her, but because he had no idea how the hell he was going to explain himself to her. The last you heard, he was going to make some sort of excuse that he had learned how to infuse hamon into his food, which reversed his aging. You keenly pointed out that his wife is going to want him to do that for her right in New York, and of course, Joseph smacked himself in the head for not thinking of that first.
For now, you had just a few more days left with Jotaro before he had to return home with his completed thesis and the shard of the stand arrow he needed. You desperately attempted to hide your growing anxiety of being separated and moving towards a long distance relationship, but he didn't seem that worried at all. It would just be a few more weeks until you saw him again at Holly's home...and when you would meet Jolyne.
The two of you packed up the majority of his hotel room and started offering bags of tools and goods he didn't need to the Speedwagon Foundation for them to take back home for him. It was strange seeing the hotel room that your love blossomed in grow so empty despite its luxury, but in a way it made you realize this terrifying chapter of your life was finally over.
"Do you think you'll miss me when you head back home?" You blurted out of nowhere as you folded one of his shirts to put in his suitcase. Jotaro stopped what he was doing to look at your back with a raised black eyebrow.
"What kind of stupid question is that?" Jotaro huffed out while organizing his paperwork into secure files for travel. "Do you think I won't?"
"Well..." you were trying so hard to keep your voice from wavering, but it was proving more difficult than you thought. "I just...I have never been in this situation before. I don't know what to feel."
Your heart was aching. The fear of him returning home and forgetting about you in the sea of work was getting ever stronger. Part of you doubted his feelings considering you bonded over mutual trauma and your stand. Another part of you feared of something happening to him while he was away since it was out of your control.
"(Y/n)," he started to say while putting his files down to walk behind you, placing a hand on each of your biceps to soothe you. You didn't turn around to look at him as you refused to let him witness the glassy look in your eyes. "I barely tolerate most people, but I cherish you. Understand that my emotions are not often swayed."
Jotaro was never great with his words. He wasn't sure if he ever even said 'I love you' to Jolyne before, let alone other women aside from Holly. Still, it had been years since the last time he said it. He wasn't eager to express his feelings, nor to reveal them, but he couldn't ignore the comfort you brought to him.
You were fun to be around. Your easy and bright smile was always genuine. The amount of care you put into the people around you had reminded him of his own mother and those instincts inside of you were clear with how you doted on Josuke and the excitement in your voice when you asked about Jolyne.
He could breathe when he was with you. The future was so much brighter when you stood by his side with your ever passionate approach to life and desire to make the world a better place. You were somewhat naive at times, but that was hardly a sin in a world that needed more honesty and trust.
Overloaded with this sense of attachment and desire to stay with you, he did the one thing he never did before.
"I love you, (y/n)."
