smoke and mirrors

Nervously bouncing her leg up and down, Peyton Blake sat quietly in the bullpen, waiting for a plan to be created by the two Stilinskis. She couldn't settle. She didn't know how something like this could happen. Who would do it? Who would kidnap her sister and Scott? Why? Stiles hadn't allowed the girl to leave his side since they had found out, worried that she would somehow get herself caught up in the mix, he had already lost his two best friends, he couldn't lose the mini-me too. With that came keeping her from her mother, for the same reasons too. They were yet to figure out who they were dealing with, he couldn't risk Darby getting ahead of herself, desperate to find her daughter and getting herself into trouble.

Stilinski walked into his department, seeing the two teenagers jump up at the sight of him, the man couldn't help but release a deep sigh, shaking his head slightly, he knew what was coming from his son, he could read him like a book. He was trying to convince him to let him find Scott and Noelle too, an effort that he was already trying to make himself, and since he had failed at convincing his father thus far, he did what he did best. Bribed him with a young blonde that he had a soft spot for. He knew how the man felt about Peyton, how he saw Cole and Nellie in her, how he would do for her what he had done for her brother and sister. Usually, he would cave, it would be hard to say no and to not let them help, but today he couldn't do it. He refused to risk the life of another Beacon Hills teenager.

He guided the two into his office, shutting the door behind him, providing them with privacy, a hope that he was going to give them what they wanted to. But he had to disappoint the pair. He looked between the two pleading faces, almost tempted to change his mind. "You're not going to Mexico." He insisted, warning his son with his index finger pointed at the boy.

Stiles had hoped it would be easier, he turned to the blonde, watching her look at the Sheriff as puppy-eyed as she could, but his father remained with a straight face and folded arms, refusing to cave in this time. His plan was failing, and there was only one thing he could do- remind him of what they were dealing with, mentioning things that he had tried not to mention to the girl at his side, he didn't want to worry her too much, but now he couldn't see any other choice but to lay it all out.

"Dad, Scott, and Nell have been kidnapped and taken to Mexico, okay?" Stiles reiterated, a point the man had heard all night. In the loft. On the way home from the night. While he was getting in bed last night. The moment he opened his eyes this morning. He had heard it loud and clear, the repetition of it didn't change his mind. "I think that's a pretty good reason for a trip to Mexico."

"Okay." Sheriff Stilinski sighed as he moved over to his desk, placing his hands on it as he leaned on it, naturally, his son copied his stance as he stood on the opposite side of it, both trying their hardest to assert authority on the other while the brunette girl stood beside Stiles as she chewed anxiously on her red painted nails. "Even if Deaton is right about this the best thing to do is to go through the proper channels." He tried to reason with his son, as his son tried to reason with him too. Neither seeing eye to eye about the right approach to dealing with a couple of powerful and rare supernaturals. "That means we call the right law enforcement agencies, border patrol, putting out an all-points."
