"Here, hold this ice on your ribs." Carmen instructed handing Miguel an ice pack. She looked at Violet and checked to see her stitches in her forehead

"Thanks."

"Of course, I should be thanking you. If you didn't help who know what could've happened" Carmen said. She was truly grateful Violet protected her son.

"Miggy, why don't you tell me who did this?
I'll call the school. They can protect you."

"It'll only make things worse, Mama."

"Worse than this?" Carmen asked in disbelief

"Yes! If I just had more lessons, then maybe-"

"No."

"It's not Sensei Lawrence's fault. Or Violets. I just... I just wasn't ready." Miguel said and looked at Violet to say something but she had to admit she thought Carmen was right.

"No. No more karate."

"Carmen what's the problem here he found something he likes to do and he made a friend" his Ya Ya said standing up for him

"Thank you."

"Look at him!"

"I see him! What he needs is practice right? Keep your hands up, protect you face."

"Mama, this man is a bad influence"

"He is not. You don't know him. And didn't you think the same thing about Violet" Miguel argued

"That's different, I know he's a loser."

"He is not a loser. If you knew him, you'd see.
He's a great man." Miguel said and Carmen sighed
