Chapter 16
•Alex's P.O.V•
Mirrors.
That's what was in the black case that we were rewarded for the scavenger hunt? Everyone seemed surprised, but seemingly for a completely different reason than why I was. The mirrors were small, about the size of my hand, lined with silver frames and encrusted with gems of different shapes and colours, probably for each element.
A green leaf, a light blue snowflake, a pink star, a brown diamond, a yellow lightning bolt, a blue droplet, a black crescent moon, a purple eye shape, a grey cloud and a red flame. With the gems were engravings of their elements all around the rims of each mirror. As the gems glowed dimly, so did the engravings. They gave off a foreign, mystic energy. Something drew me to them.
"Go ahead." Cirus said. "Take one. They're yours after all."
With that, one by one, everyone reached out to grab the mirror corresponding to their element. As I took mine, that mystic energy intensified in the palm of my hand, but only for a split second. The glow from the mirror faded, the only bit of colour being in the gem. I glanced at my reflection, a confused expression on my face. Then I looked up to Cirus, his expression also confused.
"Alex? Aren't you stoked about our prize?" Keith asked, tapping my shoulder. I quickly turned to him.
"Oh, uh, I am. I just, have no idea what this does." I said motioning to the mirror in my hand.
"What makes these mirrors so valuable is their ability to teleport to wherever you want at any given time, as long as you were in that location previously. They dont make them that much anymore." Damian explained. I took another look at the mirror.
"So, you mean that I can travel anywhere I've been to before?" I asked.
"I just said that, but yes." Damian replied. A smile grew on my face.
"Okay, I see why you guys are stoked about these mirrors now." I chuckled.
"These can also be used as communication devices." Cirus said. "You'll be able to use them to talk to your teammates, or anyone with a magic mirror, at any time."
"That makes these even cooler!" I squealed. "So, it's like a teleporter and a cellphone all in one."
"Yeah, right?" Zielo said, a smile plastered across his face.
"Righ, well, that's all for today young elementals. You're free to go back to your common rooms or roam the school a little bit more if you wish." Cirus said. "But don't be out past seven pm."
"You got it." Zach gave Cirus a thumbs up before turning to leave. The rest of us turned to follow, but I stopped in my tracks as I got to the door. I felt a different energy from my mirror, not the mystic energy I felt a minute ago. It felt...harmful. Dangerous. Corrosive. I stared down at my mirror, everything seemed normal, except for my reflection. I looked more pale than before, my hair and eyes were faded to a near colourless shade of magenta, and black vein-like markings appeared under my eye on my cheek. I stared at my reflection for a bit, confused, and somewhat scared.
'What's going on with my mirror?' I thought to myself. 'Could it be defective or something?'
"Alex?"
Cirus called from behind me, his face tinted with concern. "Is everything okay?" He asked.
I looked down at my mirror again, and my reflection was normal. Bright red eyes, slightly darker red hair with a few orange streaks. No black markings on my face, nothing that didn't belong there. I was even more confused now.
