DESPITE THE PESTERING INFLUENCE OF HER GRAMS, BONNIE HAS NEVER BEEN A BELIEVER, HER MIND STUCK TO THINGS SHE KNEW FOR A FACT-UNTIL NOW

Mystic Falls, 1864

"How much further until we reach this Lockwood plantation?"

"Won't be long now," Emily reassured her impatient vampire companion, "We've just entered the town of Mystic Falls."

A sigh escaped Kathrine,"Good..." Hearing the carriage come to a stop, her frustration bubbled up again, "What is it now?"

The bonneted woman watched the coach hop off the carriage and walk up to a young man on the side of the road, "Looks like a gentleman is having some problems with his carriage."

"At this rate, we won't arrive until sun down, what does it matter if...who is that?" The ranting woman stopped and stared at the light brown haired man as he smiled at the man who planned to assist him, his handkerchief in his restless hands, "He's so handsome."

The coach got back onto their carriage and they started to move back on course.

"What do you say, Emily?" Chestnut eyes were glued to the attractive male, " 'Think that gentleman's family would take in a poor orphan girl from Atlanta?"

She giggled as they passed the young Stefan Salvatore who was focused on fixing his carriage wheel.

"I don't understand." Bonnie states in confusion, sitting opposite her Grams in the lounge as they both nurse a cup of tea.

"The lighting of candles, the fire at the car wash today- it was your powers pushing back at you. Making themselves known."

"But why now, why didn't they come sooner?"

Chuckling at her granddaughter's eager spirit, "One can never truly predict when they do and why. A witch's time is a witch's time. Of course, there are those who practice from a very young age, if nurtured to do so, but your father wouldn't let me meddle with your mind until you were old enough to dismiss my words as fiction."

"So this whole time, I could've been practicing?" Her Grams nods patiently as her mind races to what to ask next, then she remembers why she started the day wanting to visit her in the first place, "What about other supernatural beings?"

A sharp brow raises, "What did you have in mind?"

"I don't know...like monsters? I mean it can't just be witches, right?"

"Of course not, there are other...beings."

"Yeah, like the creatures of the night-"

"What about them?" The elder's voice sharpens.

"I mean, you've mentioned them before, but you didn't really explain what you meant."

"Why the curiosity to that?"

"Just wondering, like for example, what if you wanted to protect yourself from bad things?"

"What kind of bad things?"

"I don't know, are there supernatural beings that would hurt or kill people?"

"Like human being, harm by any force of nature would have to be intentional."

"Are there any that typically target people?" She pushes, "That are...dangerous?"

"Well," A heavy sigh, "There are the vampires-"

"Vampires?" The title is a fitting missing piece to her unsolved puzzle.

"Immortals that survive by feeding on the blood of the innocent."
