DAMON ISN'T SUPERSTITIOUS, WHAT HE DOES BELIEVE IS THAT SOME THINGS ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. SINCE GETTING WITH BONNIE, HE'S BEEN WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP AND HERE IT IS, PLUMMETING AT FULL SPEED.
"Did she say what she wanted?" He asks, not at all wanting to hear the answer.
"No." His brother replies.
" 'Woman certainly knows how to make an entrance." He tightens his grip on the kitchen table and distracts himself by watching his girl pace anxiously on the other side of it.
"She said she fooled one of us, at least. What does that mean?"
A heavy thud echoes in the living area as the marching of heeled boots come to an abrupt stop.
"She pretended to be Elena when I showed up earlier tonight." He half explains, refraining from revealing incriminating details. The tension in his shoulders dissipates at the clear relief on Bonnie's face.
Looking back over his shoulder, he makes eye contact with his brother and the crease in his brows tells him everything he needs to know.
Shit.
"I told Jeremy," Elena starts as soon as she returns from upstairs, "I can't lie to him anymore."
" 'You alright?" The younger Salvatore asks, making his way to the brunette standing defeated in the lounge.
"No, I'm not alright. I thought that with all the tomb vampires gone things would get better."
"I know, we all did."
"Katherine was in this house, that means she's been invited in. What are we gonna do?"
"Move." He quips, earning himself a look of disapproval from everyone. However, Bonnie seems to snap out of her conscious coma to shake her head at his joke. That's a win for him.
"Very helpful, thank you." Elena retorts, snarky.
"If Katherine wants you dead, there's zero you can do about it. You will be dead. But you're not, so clearly she has other plans."
The Gilbert girl drops onto the couch, exhausted.
"We need to find out what those other plans are and not provoke her in the process."
Holding back an eye roll, he turns his head back to the witch who's still slightly disengaged.
"What happened tonight when you thought she was Elena?"
The secret couple lock eyes for a moment. Panic flashes through emeralds, Bonnie can taste the acid reflex on her tongue as the question lingers in the air. There's nothing more Damon needs to know that they're on the same page.
On the car ride back, he had already been cooking up a lie. One that needed careful construction due to certain details that have already been revealed.
1.There was a kiss
2.Jenna caught them on the porch
3.Bonnie was present on the scene
Here goes nothing.
"To risk another frown line encroaching on a very crowded forehead," He turns dramatically to the two curious faces looking back at him, "We kissed."
A moment of silence so brutal you could hear a pin drop.
Swallowing down her shock, the brunette's mouth opens and closes before asking, "And you thought it was me?"
